Title: Motherboard/Ram help for my cabinet please.
Post by: Dr. Jay on June 17, 2002, 09:30:13 pm
Hello,
I'm having a strange problem with my motherboard and ram that I'm putting into my cabinet, and before I harass tech support I was curious if anyone here knew what to do.
I've got an MSI KT333 motherboard and I've got 3 separate 512mb ddr ram modules (Total 1.5gb).  The motherboard supports 1gb modules per slot.  Each Ram module works by itself, and windows will load when there are one or two of them plugged in.  The problem arises when I plug all three of them in.  Windows won't load and it says there's insufficient memory and to erase utilities from the autoexec.bat and config.sys.
I'm positive there's sufficient memory.  especially when it loads fine with only one module.  Any ideas???  Thanks.  -Dr. J

Oh yeah, I forgot to post that.  I am running win98se.  I guess that's the problem.
That's okay though.  I got a good deal on the ram, so I took it.  So now I guess I'll put one mod in the cabinet, and use the others for my pc.  Thanks!

Hey. A lot of KT-333 boards have problems running with all 3 dimms full. I forget the technical reasons why, but even reading Anand's latest KT333 roundup http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.html?i=1636 only 2 of the boards he tested were stable with all the slots filled. You can try slowing the latency and write timings by setting them higher in the BIOS, but I dunno. Sucks that you got a gig and a half too. Good luck.
