Title: cost question (building cab)
Post by: hulkster on November 27, 2003, 09:48:35 pm
okay, i have a cab that i modified and turned it into a mame cab.  but its a 2 player, and i want a 4 player.  so anyway, i want to build my own...based on talking octopus's design (cuz its so damn cool!).  however, im curious as to how much it will cost to build this out of mdf.  im just asking about wood and screws.   anyone have a cost estimate for something like this?  http://webpages.charter.net/rbecker5/  this is what it will kinda look like, the build anyway, im going to add some other stuff, but for the most part this is all the wood i will use.

your best bet would probably be to ask the man himself, heh.

But off hand, I'd say most cab designs I've seen need 3-4 sheets of MDF @ around $20 each.  Then you'll need some miscellaneous 1x1, 1x2, or whatever would work best for some support beams in the cab. Maybe $10-15 for that stuff on the high side.  A few bux for some boxes of screws, you'll probably want some glue too.

I'd say $120 would be a good guesstimate for just materials.  That's assuming you have all the tools needed though, and is just for the basic structure. You'll probably need hinges/locks/bolts/whatever else you plan to put on the cab. Hope that helps a bit.
