So has anybody tried out the new Zinc emulator?
http://www.impactemu.com/index.phtml?s=zinc&ss=index

I have, but I can't get the zn games to work because I don't have the bios file. :(
If any Rd patrons out there want to slip it under my door I'll turn my head hte other way. ;)
This is great!, but of course they do it after I went through all the trouble of making wrappers for impact/s11
oh well... i should be able to mod the s11 wrapper since it uses the same syntax.

Ok I got the firmware.zip and played the zn games on it too.
I wish I hadn't :(....... 30 fps and my machine is a 900mhz with a 32mb video card and 500 and some odd megs of ram.
Now the namco games are a totally different story, they run at about 130 fps if I turn the limiter off, but of course you have to take into consideration that the sound hasn't been emulated on those games yet.
Belmont stated on the site that impact and s11 are now obsolete and no longer supported....
My opinion... ditch s11 since zinc is basically the same as it with better framerates, but impact is far superior in terms of speed right now, so hold onto it.
They also stated that it could be several months before redefinable keys are added. Isn't that kinda like releasing a car that only makes left turns. ;)
If they keep up development this will be the 3d equivelent of mame (as I predicted months ago) but if they don't get the fundamentals like a higher framerate and redefinable keys it may become lost.

Ditto on the review. I spent to much time getting the bios, and moving files.
but whats GREAT about the zn games... STILL BEING DEVELOPED!
I'm hoping that they/how will get to fixing them so they run as well as the S11 games someday.
but for now, impact is really better.

I found one redeaming quality on the zn side of things..
STRIDER 2!!! Because it's really only 2 3/4 D it runs at a rock-solid 60 fps! definately worth the dl.

one more thing... i found a way to optimize the emulator for ati chipsets to give you about 55 fps on each zn game, but it wont' work for every game.
turn off the interpreter
here's the important bit... turn off the disable monitor check, it's this that actually gives you the speed boost.
also ati will get about 15 fps more if you use the opengl driver obviously
:)
so maybe it's not so slow... i think a few of the ex drivers need work though
