Title: De-casing a 27" Bang & Olufsen MX6000 CRT TV
Post by: dekar24k on January 04, 2014, 06:06:04 am
I just got my hands on a 27" Bang & Olufsen MX6000 CRT TV in amazing condition. It's basically like new. I've tested it and the picture quality via RGB-SCART is killer. I mean, it's just as good as any arcade monitor I've used in the past.

The problem is of course that it is a couple of centimeters too wide for my cabinet, so I will have to de-case it.

Now, I know this question has been asked a million times before, but how dangerous is it really as long as I don't touch "anything"? I am not going to remove the PCB or anything, just get some plastic off it so that it can fit in my cab.

Also I was thinking about just cutting the sides off, but I have no idea what tools you guys would use for cutting plastic.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

it's not hard. just unscrew the back and carefully remove the plastic. to discharge it ground out a screwdriver and stick it under the anode cap before you pop it off. unmount the control board from the case slide out and/or screws - leave the neck of the tube board alone. should bolt up to your cab using the mounting hardware it should have that it used to mount to the case. watch videos. not dangerous at all if you do it right.

Thanks for your advice! I do not think I will have to unmount the control board or any other components, only de-case it. Do I still need to discharge it?

i would to be safe.

1. metal screwdriver with rubber or plastic handle
2. jumper cables (or smaller alligator clip if you prefer, i had jumper cables people laugh it's overkill but it saved me money so whatever)
3. clip ground to the screwdriver metal shaft (NOT THE HANDLE)
4. connect other end of the ground to the coin box or something else metal. be sure if jumper cables to use the same color for each one dont put the black on the screwdriver and the red on your metal ground thing or you fail.
5. anode cap on monitor is a suction cup thing. stick ur screwdriver with that clipped ground on it in there good wiggle it around. wait 5 min. do it again then pop off the anode cap if you want. that's what I did and I had no probs and have went from noob to doing it 4 or 5 times now.

don't be scared!
