Hello
Just need a bit of advice please
Just started on collecting all items required for my new cab build, not sure what interface to get a Mini Pac or U-HID interface.
I am looking to use around 20 buttons in all with RGB LEDs, a spinner, trackball and 2 joysticks,
What do you all suggest and why please?
-
someone must be able to advise me?? I was hoping to place my order for all parts today.
-
Welcome aboard, Seanr28.
Before you place an order, you'll want to think through the design process so you don't end up ordering parts that you don't need or, worse yet, ordering everything *except* one small item.
Take a look at this part (http://newwiki.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?title=FAQ#What_type_of_build_meets_my_needs.3F) of the new FAQ for some ideas that can help you work out details on your build.
The Mini-Pac can handle encoding the buttons, spinner, and trackball, but will require an LED controller.
The U-HID can also do the encoding, but I'm not sure if it can do RGB LED lighting/animation like the dedicated controllers. (PacLED64, LED-Wiz) :dunno

You mentioned a spinner. Are you getting a SpinTrak (http://www.ultimarc.com/SpinTrak.html) or a TT2 (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=86&products_id=268)?
Will you be using carriage bolts to mount the sticks, or do you want to include some threaded inserts (http://www.ultimarc.com/controls.html) for undermounting?

Again, thankyou
Was going to use Ultimarc as the one you suggested sadly dont appear to stock the RGB Translucent buttons I need.
My final list of items......I think:)
I have already ordered 2 x Original Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT Joystick + Sanwa GT-Y octagonal gate
2 x Joystick Mounting Kits (as your post above:)
1 x Mini-PAC Opti. With Harness and USB cable
Cable Type: 4.8mm connectors
1 x Optional Trim Bezel for U-Trak
1 x PacLED64 Advanced LED Controller.
1 x U-TRAK FlushMount Arcade Trackball.
1 x U-Trak RGB LED Illumination Kit
1 x Ultralux Logo Inserts (P1 and P2)
20 x Ultralux Translucent Illuminated Pushbuttons. Includes LED.
Color: RGB White with 500mm wiring
Hopefully that's it????
Would like a spinner, not sure I can do it all at the minute.
What games currently use them??

PM Divemaster127, he has lots of stuff that's not listed on the site.

List of Spinner and 360° Steering Wheel games here (http://newwiki.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?title=Spinners_and_Dials#Which_games_originally_used_a_spinner).
If/when you get a spinner, consider springing for the 7" steering wheel. ;D
Scott

sounds good, not thought about adding a steering wheel as well though.......
Gary from Arcade Emulator has just contacted me confirming he has the RGB buttons I need, will hopefully place the order today:)
thanks again!!!
-
just had a result and picked up an original Dead Or Alive Arcade machine in mint condition, has only been used in someones house from new. Obviously I will still converting to MAME, but can I use an Nvidia 680 Graphics card to drive the arcade monitor correctly, or do I need to get one them ATI Arcade VGA cards?
will post some pictures soon:)
cheers
-
Can anyone advise me what other devices I will now need to interface with existing wiring etc please? I don't know if its a jamma one or not??
-
Hate to be "that guy" but to MAME a home-use only mint cabinet... maybe consider selling it and continuing to search for something gutted? If you got it for a reasonable price you might be able to flip it and come out ahead. Just my 2 cents- good luck with the project either way.
-
I did get it for a fair price, by the time I build a cabinet, find a suitable large screen etc, it would cost over double to the amount.
-
I think what WFG was trying to say is that since the cab is Home Use Only (HUO) and in mint condition, it should be preserved for posterity -- odds are that collectors will pay good money to get their hands on a mint all-original HUO cab with matching serial numbers.
With the proceeds from that sale, you can probably find a more suitable cab to convert.
You may even be able to trade your HUO cab for a suitable cab + some cash.
MAMEing (Maiming?) a HUO cab in mint condition is almost always frowned on by the community unless any modifications that you do can be easily and completely undone without leaving a trace.
It's your cab, so it's your decision. :dunno
We're just warning you that there's a very good chance you will encounter some very  and :soapbox: responses if you go down that path.
Scott
P.S. The KLOV entry (http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7538) for Dead or Alive has no photos of the cab, sideart, or control panel -- I'm sure some good photos would be greatly appreciated. ;D
Progetto Snaps (http://www.progettosnaps.net/index_en.html) would also appreciate those photos.
-
makes good sense, thanks for the advice, appreciated.
As soon as it arrives (should be in the next few days) I will get some high quality pictures.
I forgot to look, but don't suppose you know if it would be Jamma wired or not?
-
IIRC The KLOV entry said that it runs on Sega Model 2 hardware and that there is a Sega to Jamma adapter available.
Also, if you have a flatbed scanner, scanning the sideart like this (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,40789.0.html) would help anyone interested in doing a restoration.
Checked all the usual arcade art sites and there's hardly anything on this game besides a flyer and a low-res marquee at Progetto Snaps -- most cabs you can find high-res images/scans of the sideart, marquee, control panel, and monitor bezel.
Scott
EDIT: I don't see any PDFs/scans of the manual on the usual sites, either.
-
so its quite rare to find i guess then.
-
Only 2 similar to yours listed in VAPS and they are listed as B+/B condition.
Your cab is probably the best bet for preserving the art on this odd bit of arcade history. (Tecmo game running on Sega hardware :dizzy:)
VAPS Arcade/Coin-Op Dead Or Alive Census
There are 7,131 members of the Video Arcade Preservation Society / Vintage Arcade Preservation Society, 6,064 whom participate in our arcade census project of games owned, wanted, or for sale. Census data currently includes 95,734 machines (4,867 unique titles).
Uncommon - There are 6 known instances of this machine owned by Dead Or Alive collectors who are active members. Of these, 2 of them are original dedicated machines, 1 is a conversion in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet, and 3 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.
Wanted - No active members have added this machine to their wish list.
This game ranks a 5 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most often seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on census ownership records.

blimey! I will certainly preserve the cabinet then:) and ensure what ever I do can be reverted back to original state if required.
cheers for the info.
On another not, ordered all control panel parts now! so will make a start on that very soon:)
-
Finally got my Dead Or Alive Cabinet, not quite as MINT as it should have been.....did get a 1/3 of my money back though
What do you think? I have since repaired the control panel mountings. and wiring...

The art looks like it's in really good shape for high quality photos/scans. ;D :applaud:
Scott
-
it is, just a small amount of scuffing where the keyboard goes around the edges.
-
did you notice that the 1p and 2p button layouts are different?? Very odd but clearly and error made when being produced! clearly the template used was up side down!
-
Looks like both players have the joystick, red button and blue button in a line.
P1's line appears to go straight to P2's joystick, but P2's button layout is turned CCW about 30 degrees. :dunno
The important question is this: Are the joystick bases parallel/perpendicular with the monitor, or are they angled?
If P1 is parallel/perpendicular and P2 is angled, it is probably either a design or manufacturing error.
Scott
-
angled, a fair bit as well! I'll get some pics!
