But the battery for the active pickups was dead, so my next purchase is a 9v battery.   :badmood:

I was really thinking about buying everything for Rocksmith after watching this. Seems like it could be a fun distraction. Do you know of a cheap electric guitar you would recommend?

I bought a Tamiya Sand scorcher from Hong Kong which somehow got transferred to the wrong post office in Brisbane, who in turn couldn't read all that well and returned it to sender. It only cost me about $120 in postage and rehandling charges for the privilege of not actually having anything! I work at a post office, and as it happens, at one stage the poxy thing was actually in our office! From Hong Kong to Australia and back again, and I was probably within 5 metres of it :banghead:

It would have been slightly cheaper, and a hell of a lot more fun to just get a hundred dollar note and set fire to it! At least I could have filmed it and put it on youtube...

I started with a copy of Rocksmith 2014 and the Squire Bulletstrat that Louis Tully recommended because I heard it was a good beginner's guitar and I found it for $130.  I just started doing this less than 3 weeks ago and I'm having a blast.  On lead guitar I'm starting to get around 50% mastery on some of the easier songs, meaning I'm able to play about half the notes correctly.  I've never touched a bass guitar before today and within an hour (of replacing the battery) I was playing 100% of Pour Some Sugar on Me, which felt pretty badass.

Amazon has RS2014 with the required cable for $50 right now (PC/360/PS3).  I think it normally runs around $70-80.

A Luchador nutcracker for my family white elephant gift theft.

Everybody buys a funny cheap present, you put them in a pile and draw straws to get the gift order. The first person opens a present. The next person can either open one or steal the first person's present. Of they steal the thief picks the replacement present to be opened by the first person. So on and so forth for everybody - steal or keep until the end.

It's an awesome way for the adults to do Christmas on the cheap and make something more out of gift exchanging.

Power cord, 14 guage wire.  I needed it to wire up my new used workbench.  I'm so hyped that I now have a proper work area, even though it takes up so much room.  I need to get my tools setup on it next.

It was a local Craigslist steal at $200.  Picture before I wired up the outlets on the upright legs, no daisy chained cords now.

We will be doing that tonight. We try not to buy cheap things though.  This year I will put this in the pile http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Deluxe-Laptop-Cart-Black/17479996 (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Deluxe-Laptop-Cart-Black/17479996)

last year http://www.homedepot.com/p/Bayco-30-ft-16-3-Heavy-Duty-Retractable-Reel-with-3-Outlets-FL-800/202195558?N=c5bl# (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Bayco-30-ft-16-3-Heavy-Duty-Retractable-Reel-with-3-Outlets-FL-800/202195558?N=c5bl#) everyone with a house wanted; you can hang it from your garage ceiling have it plugged into your garage door opener power outlet and just pull the extension cord down when you need it.

Thanks for the guitar suggestions, between getting the Rocksmith and that USB Cable it looked like it was going to be $300 plus for something I could try for a day and realize it was not for me.

Bah!  Procrastinators!  I got all of my stuff done two weeks ago.  ;)

I had heard that Ducktales Remastered was available as a physical copy on the Wii U.  Has anyone seen this in the wild?  If not then I've gotta pick up a points card for myself.

I must be one hell of a curmudgeon but that's one of the few holiday traditions I've always hated. It's right up there with the bizarre idea that Egg Nog is actually a good tasting drink.

A complete travel artist kit, with easel, canvas and instruments.

It's hard to buy for the professional artist in the family, but this kit will net me some stunning watercolors.  ;)

Besides its more enjoyable to give than to receive.

Happy holidays everyone!

They would have preferred cash.

I picked up a laptop for my wife. She got me Need for Speed Rivals for xbox one. Somehow, at the till, I ended up paying for both.  :dunno

NFS is pretty awesome. It's very similar to NFS: High Stakes from way back in the day. The "story" parts are so lame and try-hard, but the gameplay is top notch for an arcadey-style racer.

I bought my dad a 33 gallon air compressor for Christmas.  Or as my wife says, "You bought your inheritance."  Which is not far from the truth.   :lol

Le Chuck - We tried the White Elephant gift exchange two years ago at my wife's grandmothers.   People actually bought nice gifts (Home Depot, iTunes gift cards, cash, Dewalt tool boxes).  It got ugly.  People were shouting.  The horror.  The horror....

Had to take a buck of my stuff back.  When will people learn you can't buy me clothes.  I ended up buying a bunch of retro t-shirts and I got the collector's physical copy of Ducktales Remastered from Target.  It comes with an exclusive Disney pin.  Apparently that's a thing so It'll probably be worth money someday.
