Well,
Our little sith lord decided it was time to kill our 50" plasma with his Darth Maul light saber on Friday. Hit it right on the edge and put a spider web in the glass. It took a while but he finally fessed up....which is really all I can ask for.
But now I have a 50" plasma sitting in my garage that's busted. Not being familiar with them, I was wondering if it's worth getting fixed, is it worth anything for parts, or just toss it.
From what I've read, once you break the glass and release the plasma, it's useless.
Any thoughts?

u can resell it to a re-purpeser..what they will do is romove all moudles
and toss the >pdp< plasma part..
as it is worth more then half of the unit its-self..
yes once the dispaly is cracked call it a day..

Thanks Ed. That's what I feared. No more plasma in my house. Too many light saber battles around here. Penance is I took their 42" out of the playroom until daddy's TV is replace. >:D

Considering the living room TV is probably the most valuable thing in my entire house, I think I would have lost my mind for a moment. You've got a far more level head than I!

What are you gonna do with it now?

I dunno. It's sitting in the garage all sad like. As far as level head, I learnt about it on my way home from work (50 min drive), so plenty of explitives were expressed prior to pulling in the driveway. I can't teach the kids responsibility by going into a rage. I've always felt the quiet guilt is the best tool to use. Honesty is what it's all about. I've always taught my kids that noone likes a thief or a liar. And if you're one of those, you'll end up alone.
Plus, it's interesting to watch them squirm. >:D

Maybe you should teach them about Wal-Mart's free lifetime extended warranty?
You know how it works. Go buy a 55" plasma. Take it out of the box. Put your broken 50" inside it. Return.

if you take out the circuitry and sell it piece by piece on ebay as repair parts you might be able to recoup a good bit of your $$
the screen in unrepairable and a replacement would be damn expensive though - your only repair option would be to try to find the exact model/batch with a bad motherboard or power supply and use your parts to fix it.

Thanks ed. I shot them an email. If I could recover some $$ that'd be cool. Wondering what kind of $$ they pay...
