My wife is a retro game junkie!! So I figured for her birthday I would build her a MAME cabinet. Here are the pics of my progress so far. I decided to go with LuSID's plans and a 27" TV with Svideo input capability. What do you guys think?

When I read the title I was thinking "Ms. Pac cocktail" for sure.
-
You sure this is for your wife? ;) ;D

Yeah, we both grew up in the 80s but she REALLY loves the 80s, the music and the games. Her favorite of course is Ms. Pacman, she recently picked up the new handheld Ms. Pacman at the store and fell in love with it. So I told myself, if she likes that she would love a MAME cabinet. So I told her about it and she freaked! She thought it was the most wonderful thing ever!

Good luck on your cab. Looks good so far.
Just a heads up...
The cabinet I made (3+ years ago) was also for my wife (although it was a xmas gift instead). Galaga was her game of choice. Once completed, she played for a bit, but soon lost her zeal (less than two weeks I would say).
So I kinda claimed it. I replaced the PC and put on a 2 player 6 button control panel instead. I don't think she really minds, but she will occasionally pull 'rank' when my buddies are over and interrupt our XMen vs SF tournament to watch her play galaga. :)
Don't get me wrong though, she does like the cabinet. And after discovering some of the 2 player puzzle games, she plays a lot more. She must enjoy beating me!

For her birthday, maybe you can give her a table saw. Although your cuts look very clean, so she probably already has one. ;)
The monitor looks like it was a tight squeeze. Make sure it has adequate ventilation.

re: ventilation
Only the front frame of the TV is a tight squeeze. The TV quickly slopes down giving it plenty of "breathing space".

Nice job so far. I built my first cab for my wife. She hardly plays it but bitches when the kids do. Go figure.

I'd build my girlfriend an arcade machine for her birthday, but she'd probably get me a sewing machine for mine.
