DESCRIPTION
Punch everybody. 'nuff said.

General Rules:
- One Credit, No Continues.
- Highest score wins.
- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.
- MAME INP recordings are encouraged but optional.
- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the game screen.
- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition among forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!
- Even if you don't have a competitive score or if you don't *think* that you have a competitive score, please post it anyway to keep the thread fun & to give everybody a good sense of score ranges.
- Please make sure your scores are from games that take place during the competition period (no posting your best score from last year, etc.).
- Use of autofire or other non-standard hacks within MAME or your PC's OS are not allowed.  No program or other person or entity of any sort may manipulate your controls during your game.  Coaching & back-seat driving is fine as long as the party doesn't directly influence the game or controls.
- If you can beat any of the high scores from the previous competitions, you can submit your score to the BYOAC High Game Scoreboard.

Not a bad choice!
I personally would have gone with The Punisher, since its superior in gameplay, but this'll do!

Playing this one off my GCW via FBA, I enjoy beat-em-ups on a handheld device more for some reason.
315,560 to start me off on this one. ;)

Never thought fight-and-go-right games were very fun to play for score.  In fact, I sometimes wonder why they even bother having a scoring system, because it always just seems as though it's tacked on as an afterthought.

I'll give it a try anyway.  :D

If you do more than simple punches and kicks, your score is higher.  It also seems that if you are holding the pipe at the end of the stage, you get extra points.

I've been wondering what Micky Rourke and Wreck-it Ralph were doing in the game.

Updated top post to add missing DIP switch setting: bonus life: 100k.

206,430 for me. White t-shirt guy is best for me--happy medium between fast weak orange shirt guy & slow strong one-suspender guy.

-Jason

PS--Beware, high score save doesn't work (at least on my 115u2 installation).

While in there to set the dip switches you might want to also turn "Allow Continue" to NO so you don't have to wait for it to count down or accidentally hit continue !

115K after 2 or 3 attempts...

What is the "Button 3 (Cheat)" defined in the input?  Isn't this just a 2 button game?  Button 3 does nothing for me but is lit up with LED Blinky.  Think I'm going to mod my controls.dat to drop it.

Well since I can't get onto arcade-museum.com the following was nabbed from wikipedia.org.

"The controls for Final Fight consist of an eight-way joystick and two buttons for attacking and jumping respectively. Pressing the attack button repeatedly when attacking an enemy or multiple enemies will cause the player character to perform a combo. The final blow of the combo can be changed to a throw if the player moves the joystick in the opposite direction just before landing it. The player can also perform a jump attack. Pressing the attack and jump buttons simultaneously allows the player to perform a special attack that strikes all surrounding enemies, but will drain a small portion of the player's health."

And the CP is below.  Why your third button is lighting up is beyond me but I haven't looked at the input yet.

Hm.. fun game.  I've shoved an original board into a cabinet and don't recall the third button doing anything.  Cody's jump kick kind of breaks this one.

I am referring to MAME and the game input screen on 148 build.  Got my controls.dat a while ago.  I knew the original game had 2 buttons, so I dont know what this 3rd button is for or why controls.dat lists it.  If anyone does, let me know.

Haggar's suplex invulnerability is pretty exploitative as well.

Button 3 would just be those 2 inputs linked to one switch.  Would be "easier".

So I fired up my "no frills pedestal" last night...

Thought I'd try this with Cody.  Didn't do so hot (~127,000).  Then I realized I had NEVER played this game with Haggar.  Not once.  Played it hundreds of times in the arcade, owned a machine, all that.

Still didn't impress anyone around here but my score did jump over 200k.  Had a 90% full life bar after the fight with Damnd.

Listening to that suplex yell sure gets annoying.

Random item drops on the very first screen when you smash things are a big factor, I've noticed.

I'm not trying to be skeptical, I'm genuinely curious.  Granted, this game is pretty generous with a hamburger or BBQ after you defeat a large enemy, so I could see fully healing if you manage to get through one of those fights without dying.

I can try to make a video too. Though it'll be a crappy iphone one, since I'm playing off my gcw. The only mame-able machines I have running right now is my GCW and my OG Xbox. My cabs are in dedicated mode atm.

One thing to note when using Haggar, a double-headbutt to pile-driver grab will yield you a couple thousand points on an enemy kill. And I'm not sure, but I think the tougher enemy types give you more points -- like the Andores or the leather jacket guy who blocks your attacks.
Also, there is a bonus stage (classic capcom car demolition) right after defeating Sodom, so that'll boost your score quite significantly.
I avoid using weapons against enemies, they don't give you much points on hit, but I do try to pick a weapon up at the end of an area because you get a free 500 points when you are holding a weapon during an area change.

The more I play this game, the less I like it. I don't seem to get better. I did have a lucky game yesterday & this will be my final Final Fight entry, finally.

I see that all the good players are using Haggar, but I find him too slow--I don't seem to know how to do his combos & special moves...

OK, so I picked a game about which I wasn't crazy, as the ones that I adore put me in the BYOAC doghouse. Final Fight seemed a good pick, as we'd been doing more shooty than punchy games, so I figured Final Fight was the first of this genre & wasn't a one-on-one fighter (gag), so I picked it. This game suits me fine as a quarter-eater buddy game, but I had frustrations trying to get max points playing alone.

Anyway, criticisms aside, I picked a popular game!

kixfan 161,160 (couldn't get 1 more point to make it 161,161, could ya? Usually a contender, but not this time!)
Donnorsdad 166,720
codemonkey 170,320
Generic Eric 204,720 (please write your score in your post!)
pbj 207,390 (playing lying face down on the floor)
harveybirdman 215,420 (blurry picture--killin' me)
JDFan 215,740 (oooh, landed 1 more punch than harvey!)
jasonbar 240,860
zanna5910 261,810
jdbailey1206 341,984
comtek 463,960
opt2not 489,220

Hunched over his XArcade, kthx.  If I laid face down on the floor, I'd never be able to get up.

I did slightly upgrade the pedestal with a shelf and a chair, though.  Project pic attached.

Thanks man. I think it was a fine choice.  I think it's also admirable that you chose a game that you're not good at. I did the same for my picks as well. I mean, part of this competition is also getting exposed to games that we wouldn't normally choose or know of ourselves.
