Title: Confused > VMMaker / SwitchRes
Post by: akumajo on December 07, 2013, 05:11:27 am
Hi,

My setup is a New Net City (tri-sync monitor) + ATI Radeon x600+ GroovyMAME 0.151 + Windows XP 64

1) install CRT EMU_Driver
2) set windows to 640x480p60
3) install GroovyMAME
4) generate GroovyMAME mame.ini
5) configure mame.ini to match my monitor (monitor arcade_15_25_31)
6) play

What are the difference between VMMaker or SwitchRes ?

Did I miss a step with VMMaker ? Everything seems to works fine without using it.

Thanks.

You really need to run VMMaker ..
It sets up the modelines to be available for Switchres to use...
otherwise switchres can only see what is available as standard (which isn't much)

Using the default resolutions installed by the driver can be fine enough for the 15/31 kHz, because although default modes are all in the 15 kHz range, the higher resolutions (interlaced) can be turned into progressive 31 kHz resolutions by GM as they're needed. However, you probably won't have nothing ready for the 25 kHz range, in case you want to use it (384p).
