Title: Questions about appropriate scale and pinball
Post by: Generic Eric on December 05, 2013, 10:59:38 am
To pinball people:  What is the traditional cabinet?  Bally?

The heart of my question has to do with scale.  I have a 24" Dell monitor 16:10.  What is the appropriate sized monitor for the backglass box.  Can I make a mini pin based on this 24" monitor without it looking too retarded?  I'm most likely stuck with the 19" 4:3 monitor I have on hand, but I guess I wonder what sized box I should put that into?

Thanks.

EM?  SS?  AN?  DMD?   P2k? (electroc mechanical, solid state, alpha-numeric, dot matrix display, pinball 2000)

The answer to your question is that they come in all shapes and sizes.  I would recommend heading over to the HyperSpin-FE forums, then to the HyperPIN subform.  Guys there have build some amazing setups.

Thanks.  I signed up years ago as a gold member.  That is probably a more suitable place for digital pins.

Hey Eric,

I used a 16:10 24" monitor for my backglass and I used my Chicago Coin "Hollywood" pinball machine as a "Template" for my virtual pincab and the scale is just perfect. It is a 40" playfield and 15" DMD. Here are a few pics for you to compare and here is a link to my build on Hyperspin-FE http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?15208-quot-New-Build-quot-Teaser-Pics (http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?15208-quot-New-Build-quot-Teaser-Pics). Ignore the MAME cab, it's 7 years old, a bit of a fail and I am in the process of re-doing it.

I've used a 28", a 29" and a 32" for the backglass. All three used a thin bezeled 39" LED westinghouse for playfields in standard cabs.  I also used a 17" 4:3 monitor for a BG and 24" PF in a mini.
