Title: Anyone happen to know if I can use a PS/2 to USB adapter with a PS/2 KeyWiz?
Post by: nitz on December 03, 2013, 08:07:47 pm
Bought a PS/2 KeyWiz in my last order from Randy which should be arriving any day now. Thought I was going to be using a desktop for my project, but ended up needing to get a laptop for something else and want it to double as the project computer. Of course, no PS/2 port. D'oh! :banghead:

Just wondering if I could fix this problem by getting one of those cheap PS/2 to USB adapters. The reason I'm a little unsure about it is I once had the opposite - a USB to PS/2 and the thing was completely useless - didn't work with anything and I ended up tossing it. I'm also wondering if I'd have to worry about lag or anything like that.

Failing that, I guess I'll have this thing up for sale in the BST forum and have to re-order. :-\

I don't know about the KeyWiz, but I had the same issue with a PS/2 I-Pac.   I tried a PS/2 to USB adapter and the lag was so bad that games were unplayable.   I ended up buying a new usb I-Pac and it worked like a charm.

Don't bother. I tried this once, actually exactly what you're doing. Needed to hook it up to a laptop instead of a desktop. Turned out one of player 2's buttons would just stop sending a pulse in the middle of holding the button. It will not work 100% so save yourself the frustration and just exchange for the USB version.

Is there a USB version of the Keywiz?  I couldn't find one.  Closest I found was the GPWiz which does gamepad signals, not keyboard...

No, there isn't. I prefer keyboard input too, much easier to verify it's working.

You probably didn't need to buy a complete new board. There is info on this here: http://www.ultimarc.com/ipacusb.html (http://www.ultimarc.com/ipacusb.html)
