Title: What arcade/pinball-realted stuff did YOU ask for, for Christmas?
Post by: Sarver Systems on November 29, 2013, 08:21:36 am
I asked for a new color laser printer. It doesn't seem to be arcade-related at first, but I'm using it to print full-sized manuals for all of these machines I've been repairing.

I also asked for a 30" LCD and a 40" LCD for my virtual pinball.

I've already got a ton of tools, but I might ask for a digital o-scope too.

What all have you asked for?

I asked for a jxd 7800b. Cool little tablet for arcade and console emulation.

I need some plexi to finish my widebodied lowboy.  I would like one of those fused power swtiches with the outlet on it.  Or the momentary switch from frozen cpu.  LED strips for the marquee.  I have a florescent tube light, but I think I'd rather not at this point.

I also have other projects I have buying parts for and need to start.

Starwars
Mrs Pacman Cocktail
Four way joystick upright Cabinet
Mini Video Pinball
Vertical shump cabinet.
Driving Cabinet
Touchscreen games and jukebox

Sheet wood
Pinball legs
Red translucent buttons or
Red LEDs for Mrs pacman
Touchscreen for Touchscreen games and jukebox.

I'm not entirely sure which of those I am likely to start next.  I've been dragging my feet on this.

None really.  I can ask for console stuff, because they sell that in stores, but arcade related stuff requires knowledge of the hobby to purchase and my family/loved ones just aren't going to be able to figure that out, which is unfortunate because my pacman still needs art to finish it.

I have one of those, but you might want to get a Vita or a Sony Xperia Z (I have one too) ;) as the 7800b has some issues like wanting to burn your hands off.

Its a nice little tablet but needs some heavy Modding to keep cool.  Battery life is short too unless you underclock it'd but who wants a 800 MHz when it comes
Double the clock out of the box.  Oh, and due to the heat it locks up a lot.

I tell (beg) people not to buy me anything.  I've got enough crap/toys.

I think you are missing the point.  What's the only thing better than cool stuff?  FREE cool stuff!  ;)

You sound like you aren't the primary breadwinner.  Ain't nothing "free" in this household.

My wife snagged the family a bunch of the older 7" Kindle HD. I kind of needed a UI screen for my cabinet and I think the 7" screen is right on the small edge of "just right" for the cab. I've seen hints that the Kindle supports OTG after a custom ROM update. So I'm hoping that I'll be able to power the Kindle straight from the USB port and attach something like a ATMEGA32U4 for some peripheral fun.

I'll have to wait and see. Rooting the first in line and getting it configured to be 4 year old friendly is a royal PITA.

My elderly mother uses an android phone, but has problems navigating the small icons.  I installed Big Launcher and it works a treat.  You can configure it to display only icons that need to be accessed.  There is a free version but the paid version has extra benefits.  Perfect for a 4 year old.

I'm playing with Child Play which works well but I think there's room for improvement. My key issue is preventing my 4th old from accessing the settings and Google Play without permission.
