It's a good concept, but having some of that waterproof led strips stuff - I'd imagine feeding the length along the entire length of the t-molding channel would be a nightmare. Guess brainstorming some ideas:
- oil
- do it in sections
- use the non-waterproof stuff - thinner profile
- fiber-optic cable?
also, using that channel router bit around your cab sides is gonna take a really steady hand!
Love the concept though, especially with these mutli-colour strips you can get - cab edges with cycling colours! how cool would that be? Mood Cabs :)

How about contacting your T-molding supplier. Surely you could order some prior to being coated?

Looks like a couple manufacturers have beaten you to it. Personally I think it looks tacky.

Hmmm - it don't look good in those photos, but if you could get it more diffuse rather than 'blothcy' could still look good.
-
How bright is EL-wire? That could run in a normal t-moulding slot, but I don't know if it would be bright enough, and would really only light up the centre strip of the moulding.
-
How are you going to use the channel router bit on corners? If you had a 3d axis cnc router you could do it. But freehand? eeek....

Both of those look more like rope lighting fixed on the edges

EL Tape would work well but you would have to remove the barb completely and adhere the molding in some other fashion.
-
I think the best bet would be a black-light reactive type of t-molding. I'm not sure any sort of lighting would ever diffuse the way we'd ever want it to. But good try, Chance.

From my own testing with LEDs behind my marquee, I found that they need to sit back at least 1.5" to be fully diffused. So I'm not sure how you'd get this to work other than having some plastic in your cabinet (or the whole cabinet made out of plastic) and backlighting that with the LEDs set back. I don't think it's possible to make the LED t-molding idea fully diffused though.

I'm not trying to crap on your thread, just was putting in my two cents. You're probably right that it's doable with enough plastic in front of the LEDs.

Part of me wants to lament that you have unleashed yet another LED horror upon this hobby. The other part says that looks kinda cool and it hopes you figure it out.
:dunno
-
If I was to implement this I wouldn't care if the LEDs were fully defused or not.
I would. Otherwise it'll look like those posted examples. :dunno
Again, experimentation is good- maybe it'll lead to something in the future.
-
Why use T-molding at all? I think I saw some LEDs on long rolls that were the same width as a cabinet.
-
LEDs would be dotted. I think ideally, most people who would want this functionality would want an evenly lit, unbroken line made entirely of the T-molding.
-
Yeah I'd think just having LEDs in place of t molding would look hokey.
-
EL tape would be the way to go then.
-
I bought this finish stripper that took the finish off of a piano in just a few minutes (per piece I was stripping). Assuming it doesn't just melt the t-molding I think it might work on that shiny t-molding.

...experimentation is good- maybe it'll lead to something in the future.
Funny, that's what I use to say to the girls in college.

So did I, but after a succession of doors being showed to me:
I bought this finish stripper.

:pics of the Finnish stripper, or it didn't happen.

I'm stuck in the golden era...
No lit joystick ball stops, buttons, or t-molding for my cabs.
Seems like a novel undertaking, but a little too detracting for my taste.
I like to focus on whats happening on the screen, not elsewhere...
