Title: Weiya cv-04 adapter troubles
Post by: Sidgoop on November 23, 2013, 10:38:23 am
I had been having difficulty trying to locate a used 25" medium res monitor for my Hard Drivin' compact, so I decided to go the RGB/TV adapter route.  I picked up the Weiya CV-04, and a Sony WEGA/Trinitron with S-Video input from Goodwill for a few bucks.  Now, here's the problem - on the Sony, I get a nice, sharp, colorful picture, but a rolling screen.

So, I hooked it up to an Orion LCD monitor with S-Video input.  On that one I get a stable screen, but no color, and what looks like some pixilation.

I'm assuming it's a sync issue, because both my Hard Drivin' and Race Drivin' boards have the same results on the monitors. Being a compact version of the game, I know it used standard, not medium res monitors, so this adapter should handle it.  Is there a way to adjust this sync coming out of this board?

are you using the combined sync (RGBC) or seperated sync (RGBH+V)? if it's seperate sync, try attaching them together and attaching it to the combined sync line.

also make sure you switch is set proper (NTSC if in north america PAL if in EU)

try another power supply. perhaps the power coming out is dirty or not powerfull enough. Not sure about this one, but some other boards i've seen require up to 2000ma of power.

Thanks! I've tried all combinations of wiring, but never thought of upping the amperage of the power supply.  I'll give it a shot when I get home.

No dice.  Same result. I guess I'll see if a different tv might be a little more forgiving.

did that unit come with the s-video cable you are using? it could be of questionable quality. COUGHCOUGHCRAPCOUGH maybe try another.

The svid cable came from Walmart, I think. Yeah, questionable quality to say the least. I'll try and hunt down a better one this weekend.

The Wei-Ya CV-04 is not a scaler, just a colorspace converter and chroma modulator.  To use this with a mid-res game, your TV would have to support mid-res which it (probably) does not.

What you need is something that has a scaler, if you want to use a TV.  Note that the results will be less than perfect due to the scaling.
