Title: T mold Question

ok so i finally, have my wood for my control panel here,
it's shaped like.. well more or like a rectangle (i'll draw the shape and post a picture)

the question is, ok so now i have to drill the 1"1\8 inch holes inside no problem,
but after i read so many tutorials i still don't really understand how to make the groove for the T-mold to be on the outside...
how do you keep it straight ? and what device do you use ?


i have an electric drill at home and a small screws drill (just a really weak drill for the screws)...
i can buy another device if necessary but i really prefer not to ...


you guys have been so helpful with my build it would be great if someone knows that..

You need a router. . . a REAL router -- a "laminate router" is only meant for trimming laminate.

You can usually find a decent router on Craigslist or rent one.

Look for a model with the "micro adjustable" feature -- there are many good recommendations/threads/videos in the woodworking forum.

And when you get one, this is how it's done, by using a special t-molding slot-cutting bit:

Don't be afraid to mess up either.  This is one of the easiest cuts to make.  But if, by chance, you do mess up all you have to do is refill your cuts with glue and try again.  And as recommended the only way to make this cut is to buy a router and a t molding bit.  Good luck.

I used a small trim router from harbor freight and it works just fine for t molding slots....and it's pretty cheap. The first time I cut at molding slot, I only had two 2 foot sections to cut (was modifying the shape of an existing cabinet), I ended up using a dremel with a reinforced cutting disk, and a lot of patience. It worked, but took forever, filled the room with smoke, and nearly burned up the motor my dremel....my point, use the right tool, get a router, they are super useful for all kinds of projects
