For my niece's Christmas gift this year I want to do something a little different. She as well as her sister like the rhythm games, and I saw the gigantic drums on the real Taiko Drumaster machines. As I do not have the 6-7k that the machines normally go for I was wondering if anyone has had any luck building one of these for use with a PC. There are the smaller drums that came bundled with the PS2 version of the game, but that seems too small.
Has anyone built something like this. The scale seems amazing and the kids would have fun with something of this size. Any ideas on how to make one of these beasts? The problem that I see is that the outside of the drum has two buttons embedded in the outside and the inside of the drum is composed of two split buttons that form a circle.

Never played Taiko Drumaster so not sure exactly but could you use/modify a GameCube bongo? Those things are super durable, my kids have been beating the hell out of those for years playing DK Jungle Beat.
Huh, I just dug a bit and found out that Donkey Konga, the other game that used these drums, was made by the same folks responsible for Taiko Drumaster
