Title: JLF joysticks - can someone explain the naming convention to me?
Post by: Fursphere on November 18, 2013, 09:33:29 pm
I want to buy some JLF joysticks for a project, but there are like 20 different models...??!??  Can someone explain all the different model designations?

The retail sites completely fail to do this.

Thank you very much!  I'll repost it here incase anyone else finds this thread:

Here the six variations listed in Sanwa Catalog ('07~'08):
JLF-TP-8 is Base JLF.
JLF-TP-8Y is Base JLF with the TP-MA (PCB) rotated 90.
JLF-TP-8T is Base JLF with JLF-P-1 (Flat Mounting Plate).
JLF-TP-8YT is Base JLF with the TP-MA (PCB) rotated 90 with JLF-P-1 (Flat Mounting Plate).
JLF-TP-8S is Base JLF with the TP-MA (PCB) rotated 90 with JLF-P-1S (S Mounting Plate).
JLF-TP-8Y-SK is Base JLF with the TP-MA (PCB) rotated 90 with JLF-CD (Shaft Cover).

Of course other variations can be done too:
JLF-TP-8-SK, JLF-TP-8T-SK, JLF-TP-8S-SK, JLF-TP-8YT-SK.

I'll just add this for completeness, since it is JLF:
JLF-TM-8 can do; JLF-TM-8T, JLF-TM-8T-SK, JLF-TM-8S, JLF-TM-8S-SK.

If you want the exact Sanwa counterpart of the stock Mad Catz Joystick, it is Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT-W.
The exact Joystick in Mad Catz Street Fighter IV Arcade FightStick? Tournament Edition is Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT-SK-W.

Now we just need a comparison to the JLW, and as to what parts are interchangeable.

I was under the impression that a many number of the parts were interchangeable. Not all, but quite a bit of the shaft assembly. Please enlighten me.

Slagcoin has a list of interchangable parts for various types of sticks here (http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/attributes_brands.html#JOYSTICK_COMPONENTS_MIXING_AND_MODDING).

As MGB said, that list shows no interchangeable parts between the JLF and JLW -- you're one step closer to enlightenment . . . now we need to work on your stated dislike (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,135301.msg1403133.html#msg1403133) of Geddy Lee/Rush.   >:D

That song is awesome.

The only thing worse then Geddy Lee is Kim Mitchell and that HORRIBLE patio Lanterns song.  I'd rather have my ears removed.

Give me Led Zeppelin, or CCR.

Yes there is. It's in the Charter of Rights, section 35:
Code: [Select]
you have the right to leave the country if you possess a lack of fondness for the band Rush. But don't to to America because they like Rush too. Just leave ChanceKJ.
Whoa it's spooky that your name was written into that section. :D  >:D
