Title: Hooking up laptop to arcade monitor

I have a STUN Runner machine with board errors I got off of a fellow BYOACer named 'CW'. Nice guy. But while I try to get these boards working again I'm thinking about throwing a laptop with MAME running STUN Runner into it to get it playable.

 I've read the wiki and various other posts and pages about hooking mame up to a arcade monitor and it seems like I might be able to do it with nothing more then a hacked up VGA cable. Is that really possible as I see most use something like ArcadeVGA and/or Soft15khz?

In theory that shouldn’t be that hard to accomplish. However the key to success is much based on what kind of gfx chipset you have in your laptop. But using Soft15kHz is a way of forcing the gfx chipset to output a signal that the arcade monitor can handle.
GroovyMAME is another option.
