Title: Is $125 for a working Rampage machine good?
Post by: slycrel on November 22, 2003, 03:59:49 pm
Sounds good to me, but thought I'd double-check.

There are a few little problems, but the only (known) technical problem is that the marquee backlight flickers on and off, causing the speakers to pop.  I know that the player 1 controls all work fine, the other two remain untested.

And like most Rampage games I've seen in the last 3 years or so, the metal is showing thru the control panel graphic quite a bit on the left.

The original artwork otherwise seems to be just fine.

The joysticks and possibly buttons have been replaced previously.

I'll probably pick this up, but I'd like to know what you guys think.

  Thanks for any comments.

That's a decent price.  If I were looking for another game, I wouldn't feel bad at all paying $125 knowing that it works okay.

Its a rip off, the guy is being so unreasonable you shouldn't even offer him less. Don't walk away, run!

So where did you say you were getting this from? I'd like to talk to the guy about how its not nice to rip people off....  ;D

Post pics when you get it....

  Heh, thanks guys.  :)

It's actually priced at $150, but I wasn't sure that it'll fit through my computer room door...  So I told the guy that I would think about a way to get it in there and let him know.  I must have known enough of what I was talking about because on my way out he said that if I bought it within the week that he'd sell it to me for $125.  Apparently he's the owner/manager and I lucked out a bit...  So I called back a few minutes ago and I should be picking it up on monday evening.  My first arcade machine, and it even works...!!!  ;D

The place actually has a number of machines at $99, though nothing spectacular.  He had a knights of the round in good condition  for around $400 (I forget exactly) and another machine right next to it for $275.  There were some wierd ones like a light gun game that didn't use a monitor, but seemed fully mechanical for $99.  heh.  Anyhow, the rampage machine wasn't on, so I asked him if it worked.  He plugged it in and tossed in some coins, it seemed fine.  I think it was off because of the popping speakers/backlight issue.  There were 3-4 really old machines that were in the corner, not turned on, that had no price.  I did notice a kangaroo that was in good shape in these.  It didn't sound like he had very many offers for his machines, maybe that's why Utah has no auctions that I'm aware of.

Anyway...  For those of you in the Utah area, it's the Nickelcade in Orem.  There are a couple nickelcades in Salt Lake and/or Ogden as well apparently, those might be promising to check out too.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone, I'll post some pics here when I get it.

  Bah.

The owner of the business says that the price on this machine was "a mistake" and "that machine's not for sale".

It was sitting there unplugged next to the rest of the for sale machines when I looked at it.  Bleh.

Thanks for the input anyhow guys.  The search continues...  If anyone knows of any good places to check in the Utah area please let me know.  This is the second time something like this has happened.

The owner of the business says that the price on this machine was "a mistake" and "that machine's not for sale".

So after he said that he'd sell it to you, you went to pick it up, and he said it's no longer for sale?

Sue him.  Take him to small claims court.  You had a verbal contract, and you want your game.   ;D

Unfortuantely the owner was apparently not the guy I talked with.  I assumed he was, since he cut me a deal on it. :(

It's about time there is a fellow Utah BYOACer.  :)  I might have to check out some of the deals.  There is a Nickle cade very close to where I live in West Valley.
