Title: My iOS/Android game for free (promo codes inside)
Post by: RayB on November 09, 2013, 05:23:17 pm
Hey guys. I ported one of my old web games to iOS and Android and currently have it available in New Zealand only. I posted some promo codes to get it free over at TouchArcade: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=208795 (http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=208795)

Here are the New Zealand codes:

(deleted expired codes)

If you don't like the game, that's fine. If you like it, please rate it with 4 or 5 stars and help a one-man indie game developer out.  ;)

Next update will see it released in Canada and then US. I'll post promos for those regions when the time comes!

RB

Legal stuff:
Code expires on Thu Dec 05 20:11:58 PST 2013
and is redeemable only on the iTunes Store for New Zealand. This code is not for resale, has no cash value, and will
not be replaced if lost or stolen or used by any other person. Requires an iTunes account, subject to prior acceptance
of license and usage terms. To open an account you must be above the age of 13 and in New Zealand. Compatible
software and hardware, and internet access (fees may apply) required. Not for resale. Full terms apply; see

Nice, free game!  Grr, I guess I'll wait for the U.S. version.

 :hissy:

Good luck!

Just curious--why the KIWI only release?  Aren't you in toronto?

Just curious--why the KIWI only release?  Aren't you in toronto?
Small population (less than 5 million) and English speaking. Allows me to test the waters, find out what hurdles there are, and ramp up marketing without "blowing it" during a full on worldwide release. I'm bound to make some noob mistakes, so if I'm going to get one star ratings, I prefer to find out in a tiny market and fix the problems before launching in bigger markets.

That said, I'm going to launch it in Canada with the next update (within next week or two).

Damn, RayB.  Those are really good reasons. Consider your plan stolen if/when I ever do a release!

Very clever.  We are rolling out an app at work and are struggling with how to test it with a small population of our students.  Your idea won't work for us but we have kicked around a lot of possible solutions and I'm impressed with what you came up with.

Launched in Canada on November 24. Didn't do promotion or advertising. Saw same spike and downward curve in downloads as I saw in NZ, but at a higher amount proportionate to the population. (Roughly 5.5 times bigger population and got 5.5 times downloads). Big spike on day one and then it tails off over next 4 days. Should hit zero downloads by tomorrow.

I gotta get my marketing efforts together!

Hey RayB, can you post some details about your game? Maybe some screens? A link to the page?

Got down to 2 on my first game.  Played a game like this on the PC years ago called Same Game.  Great way to waste a few minutes at work.  Outstanding RayB!

Still four codes left and they expire on the 24th.

Guys, Gals,  Any Canadians here ? My game recently entered the top 100 in iPad Strategy category in Canada. The iPhone version is sitting around 130. Download the FREE version of the game and help bump it up please!

Yes, for now. Future updates will bring puzzle mode.

Please, for the love of god, make this game more colorblind friendly.  Slap a symbol or something in the middle of the squares.  Look to Japanese puzzle games for inspiration (Bust a Move vs the rest of them)

You totally lost me on Easy.

I'm not colorblind but I second that, the game is rather drab. Some unique shapes or symbols could help.

I'll add "skins" in a future update with different shapes or symbols.

As a red/green colorblind person, I highly second this.  I can't count the number of puzzle games I've played that would have been awesome if not for the yellow and green things looking exactly the same to me.  Or the purple/blue, or the orange/red...  You get the point.

I think the first game I played that had symbol overlays was Puzzle Quest on the PSP.  I was borrowing the game from a buddy and was so impressed by the "color blind mode" that I bought a copy for myself.

Bejeweled and Candy Crush do it well with shaped icons.

Fun game, I cleared easy in a room with bright burnt light.

Needs more industrial music.   8)

Which colors are most crucial for needing distinctive shapes? I assume red and green?

If I take a screen shot and desaturate it, is it equivalent to what you see, or is the visual impairment too different from just such a simple test?

Here is a sample:
