Title: Can't get Hot Rod SE controller to work

 A friend of mine just picked up a MAME, trying to get it working for him. PC boots up, I can open the MAME software, and start a game, but I can't get the HOTROD SE controller to work. I have it plugged into the keyboard port of the PC. When you hit a button or move the controllers the PC beeps, but nothing happens in the game. I went into the controller section of the MAME software and HOTROD SE is selected. Any help is appreciated.
