We bought three Fires for the kids this Christmas and it's up to me to prep and install the appropriate software for each.
What I can't quite understand is...
If I'm rooting all three do I want to register all three with Amazon? If so, do I want to register all three under the same profile/account or separate profiles/accounts? Same goes for Google?
I'm not entirely sure if I want to register all three under my Amazon account (I don't use it all that much) or under my Google profile (why Google does not allow you to remove dead devices is beyond me). But I'm not all that keen on having the kids having their own (lifetime tracking anyone?)

I would set up new accounts for them. Set the recovery email address for all of them to your email so you can get passwords reset etc though. :laugh2:

It's too late at night. I don't get the joke :dunno

in case they try to lock you out of the device or if they forget their password?

My daughter has a Kindle Fire and I set it up on my account. So all of the books that I have for me and for her show on her Fire. I think it's probably better to setup their own accounts with Amazon and Google so that it's their stuff that's showing on the Kindle. I did that with another daughters Nexus 7 and it works out better.

I agree. Set up all different accounts so Little Suzy doesn't throw a fit when Captain Underpants shows up on her Kindle. I also agree that you should have administrative control over all of them so that all appropriate measures can be taken to screen what each one is viewing.

Never underestimate the hilarity of shared Amazon accounts and multiple Kindles. Some of the stuff my family reads... whoa.
I own an original one and have never felt the need to root it. There's an option to allow installation of apps outside Amazon which was all I needed.

Why not just set up one new account for all three. That way books and apps you buy for one are available on all three. Keep yours separate.

If I root them, I should be able to copy the over by sideloading, no?

But if they all share one account, the books and apps show up on all 3... no need to make extra work for yourself. I've had the original Kindle Fire and have never needed to root it. I'm curious as to what your reason is for rooting them in the first place? Especially if they are for kids?

My son has a favorite (paid for) game on my wife's tablet (under her Google account) and I don't really want to buy another three copies for the Kindles.

Do the new Kindle's allow for multiple logins like Android 4.3 (or whichever version has it)? That may be an option. Maybe not the best option but something to consider.

Google "gamename + ipk" and install directly to the Kindle. Problem solved.
