Title: Haswell G3220
Post by: slappyhooper on November 04, 2013, 03:23:42 pm
So first let me qualify my question with this statement.
1. I do not want to start up one of those long-winded GHZ war threads that always pop up every ten days or so, and
2. I don't want anybody telling me "Dude, why not just use an old P4 motherboard for cheap/free? (PaigeOliver, I'm talking to you)  :laugh2:

So Here's where I'm at. I just scooped up a decent 1150 motherboard for about 25 bucks AR, and I'm looking to pop a processor in it.
The lowest-end Haswell chip I can find is the Pentium G3220, which I assume should fly for MAME since it's new architecture, dual core 3 ghz, and has a decent L3 cache, even.

Does anybody here have any experience with this processor, or it's predecessor based on last gen Ivy Bridge?(I.E. G2120 or G2020)
I'm going to assume that this c hip will run everything up to maybe Blitz, any specific titles that you've found it won't run?

Any help is appreciated.

We are all using old Pentium 4s :dunno

I am using a maxxed out emachine from 2003.  Give it some times then you might here from someone with a smilar platform.  I'd say get your RAM upgrade and an inexpensive CPU now and save up for new CPU and video card down the line.

Sorry, I just build the Intel chips so I don't know how well that one will perform for you.  ;D

And I'm putting an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 on an older motherboard in my cabinet.  ;)

I don't know if this will help or not but I am running an Intel Core-i3 2120 @ 3.3ghz.  This runs NFL Blitz *almost* perfectly.  I love this game and when I built my cab, I had in mind that I wanted it to play NFL Blitz.  This was the fastest CPU I could get for the budget at the time.  I say almost perfectly because there is the occasional sound stutter or hiccup with the game but it is very minor.  Most people don't even really notice it like I do.  And thankfully it doesn't happen during a play, it is always afterwards when I am jumping on a downed offensive player trying to get the announcer the utter the beeped out swear words.  Still makes me chuckle some times.  :laugh2:
