So I got this cab... Although its in bad shape its supposed to be working. Its my first cab, never had any experience working on one.
I completely suck at any kind of handywork, and I'm scared shitless of doing anything with the monitor due to the charge it holds.
This cab has a door in the back, that i thought it was for adjusting the neckboard pots, but its totally inaccessible. Could it be that the monitor is installed upside down? the pots can be seen just a little bit on the picture with no thumbnail.
Also, I figured out that this adjustments board has oil/water damage (http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/9599/f1vp.th.jpg) (http://img20.imageshack.us/i/f1vp.jpg/) (picture after much cleaning)
The H-Size pot is dead, its always set on max. The others arent also working 100% properly from what I see. Since Im not going to remove the monitor till I get the proper insulated gloves, tools, and courage, can anyone identify the monitor from the adjustments board? Are replacements for this mini board sold? I can try repairing it or hiring someone to build a replacement since the design is super simple, but I would prefer to get a new one.
And then there is the degauss issue. As you can see there is a degauss coil around the monitor. It doesnt always make that degaussing sound when its turned on, I would say its more like one in 10 times. Also, I think that after the automatic degaussing it gets much worse. Perhaps the degaussing coil isnt properly placed? I plan to get a degaussing device, what type is the best?

u should take a snapshot of the tube sticker and the chassis . most ok babys come with a wei-ya chassis and a samsung tube . the samsung in my baby was horrible , so i trashed it and kept the chassis . got 3 babys here , all replaced with tv stuff , one 28 inch vga and two with 25 inch 15 k screens . the chassis-tube combo is crappy like a sanwa / tschungwa in naomis . the world is a better place without it . there is another problem : its difficult to replace the tube , coz its more like a shortneck and most common 29 inch tv or arcade tubes wont fit .

How can I reach the tube/sticker? I cant find anything by removing the pack cover, I only see the back of the Chassis PCB. Do I have to remove the monitor? I have a 28 Hitachi TV with a broken flyback, which has an AMAZING tube. If I could use that tube I would be super happy, but I dont know how to replace a tube :(

without knowing the exact type of tube and chassis + some measuring its impossible to say if a swap would work . u have to grab ur cam and take a shot , or open the backdoor , get a torch and see if u can identify something . maybe its not a wei-ya chassis inside , the remoteboard looks unfamiliar to me , more like a kortek ? make sure the cab is powered off before you fiddle around . for clarifying i attached some photos of my original long gone setting .

Thanks for the pics.
My chassis and tube are different. I managed to get some pics and get some model IDs without removing the monitor assembly.
Both the tube and chassis are from a company I ever heard of before, and google doesnt help either, at least with the chassis.
I think I stumbled upon the cheapest and "chinesiest" monitor combo known to man :p

Is it worth to spend time with this tube and chassis? (other than the mini pcb with the size and position i dont think it has any damage, althout it probably needs tweaks of all possible pots, on the chassis itself etc.

ok . so its a pentranic with a pentranic or maybe rodotron chassis . the monitor guys here might know better . i usually dont spend much effort in restoring weak arcadescreens , because here in middle europe u can collect propper replacement tvs of any kind ( vga capable or lowres 15 k rgb ) for nearly nothing . a tube with burns is a 100 % ko criteria , same goes with crappy lowcost chassis . this may be different if ur located somewhere else . i saw people costly refurbishing monitors in such a bad condition i would never spend a minute of my time nor a single euro on . repairing the potis in the remote or replacing it wont be such a big deal . the question is whats up with the tube and is the chassis running stable ?

Thats what I told him too.....if the Hitachi neck is not too long...IN WITH IT mated to an universal chassis...

I see no burn ins. Brightness is a little poor, but may be due to the adjustments board. Focus is a little poor too, there is an adjustment pot on the chassis. Geometry is ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- up, but once again there are lots of pots, hidden in the most inaccessible areas of the chassis. And there is the degaussing issue I mentioned in the original post.
I ll probably repair the pcb, but the option of the tv is becoming more and more obvious.
