Hi guys! It's been a while since I posted here. You really helped me out getting my cabinet going and getting the resolution right on my favorite games. I've spent the past year frustrated because we are down to our last good retro arcade in Utah and the consoles are getting killed by tablets and phones. The MAME community inspired me to fight back, so I launched a company with a mission to reimagine arcade classics for future generations. So, my boys get more than just my old favorite games, they get something new.
Our first project is Ghosts 'N Goblins - Demon World.
If you are a fan of the game, here's is where you can find our project:

Thanks,

Are you licensing the IP from Capcom?
Edit: Scrolled to the bottom of the Kickstarter, found the Risks & Challenges section that explains the licensing situation.

Well good luck. I was part of this: http://www.retrofx.com/ (http://www.retrofx.com/)
Capcom had NO interest in it.

Love your passion for GnG Ray! The primary difference between Phantasm Studios and Retro FX is our goal is to reimagine arcade classics. The RetroFX team took existing code from an existing game and updated the graphics and sound. We are creating a new game with a new concept, new characters, new stories, etc. We are bringing many of the elements we love from the old G 'n G games but this will be much more than a new look.
Did the Retro FX team talk to Capcom before they started the project to take their temperature? I did. Also, a lot has happened over 14 years in the gaming industry.
Thanks for sharing your project with me!

This has been our major challenge. Basically, the whole genesis of my company and this project is because of OUYA http://freethegamesfund.com/ (http://freethegamesfund.com/)
The money is going to be gone next month. So, my thinking was "This is going to be a major battle because of no prototype but if I can pull it off, OUYA will match our Kickstarter funds once we deliver them a high quality prototype in August 2014."
We are taking a chance on people contributing $10 to our vision with the hope that we can double our development costs via OUYA to create an amazing Ghosts 'n Goblins game. I know it's a lot to ask of people. That's why I'm personally promising a refund to whomever is not happy with the outcome. I completely understand where people are coming from.

Thanks pbj! Missed this 1! Gonna try to get a copy. My boy's a big fan too, even plays the versions I'm not keen on--Ghosts n Goblins Gold Knights (for the ipad--I suppose I might like them with a stick & buttons).
& I wish I could play Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins on something other than the psp (my son does, but, again, I can't tolerate those tiny controls!) but I haven't managed to emulate it yet.

No prob.
We did talk to Capcom after completing a two level demo. We had a few discussions and a meeting at E3 with a contact I had at Capcom USA (think "Maximo"), and he also introduced us to Conway Ho of Hanaho Games, who had exclusive rights to distribute the GnG ROM with their arcade controllers. This was 1999. So you're right, a lot may have changed.
If you want more detail and specifics of the obstacles we faced feel free to email me.

Thanks for checking us out PBJ! Maldita Castilla plays retro and looks retro. Demon World will feel retro but look modern. Ever play the New Super Mario Bros Wii U? Plays 8 bit, looks 2013.

Ah, OK, got it. Sorry for the confusion. Very impressive you attempted this in 1999. Pioneer!

Or like Bionic Commando:Rearmed. 2.5D games, as the kids like to call 'em.

2.5D. First time I've heard this term. Yes, this is exactly our mission! Thanks op2not!

I'D have bought a copy. Checked the website; what u were doing was what I'd still like to c. I've also wondered if remakes of old classics, with graphics & sound still much like they were back then, but with more...what?...content? added wouldn't b popular, at least with this crowd. I've often wished for a remake of Battlezone (yeah, it was done, but I mean much more like the original) with, yeah, some new enemies, I suppose, but what I would really have liked was a real landscape--I don't mean terrain, I mean a generated layout of obstacles, maybe enemies, & buildings--in other words, somewhere to go.

Cough up your version, Ray.
Do it.
-
Can't say I'm surprised, although I thought the OP said they talked to Capcom first? The DMCA notice says "To its knowledge, Capcom has not been contacted by the project."
-
"To my knowledge" is a waffle phrase best used excessively. It's up there with "mistakes were made." Doesn't mean a thing but it makes people feel better.

Would like to, but the executable won't run anymore (at least not on Windows 7 64bit).

If only there was a community of people running old games on old computer hardware....

The ghostsngoblins.com website no longer links to Kickstarter, but to a website for "Phantasm Studios" with this update about G&G:
Pending approval of developer license from CAPCOM
-
Why didnt he do what Inafune did and make another game as a spiritual successor (MegaMan to Mighty No.9 ) , then you dont need to worry so much about a license just dont make a blatant rip off (same levels, same characters, etc)
