Ok guys so i've been loving groovymame and playing extensively on it recently.
A mate of mine has seen my setup and wants it in his arcade cab.
How do I go about converting it to 15k. Is it just a matter of running VM Maker again and telling it to create the 15k modelines?
He's running a nanao ms9 15k arcade monitor btw...also how would this boot on a 15k monitor?...would he see windows and maximus arcade frontend to select his games.
Bearing in mind im giving him one of my setups which is:
Dell SFF Core2duo, HD4350 with calamity drivers installed, groovymame running behind maximus and the pc connected to his cab via jpac.
Any help would be much appreciated guys... ;D

Hi joeblade2,
Dell SFF Core2duo, HD4350 with calamity drivers installed, groovymame running behind maximus and the pc connected to his cab via jpac.
This setup is perfect. Boot will still be at 31 kHz, but the JPAC will filter the signal to 15kHz-split screen, so it won't be a problem for the monitor. Once in Windows, everything will be at 15 kHz.
Yes, recalculate the modelines with VMMaker configuring for a 15 kHz monitor. If you just leave the default options, you'll be already there.

Fantastic!! Thanks Calamity.....
Will keep you all updated with progress once were ready to install....

Quick update on this guys just for future reference...
Went into the VMMaker config and changed "VGA" to "CUSTOM", ran VMMaker and it generated approx 100 new modelines.
Then went into my mame config file and set monitor to arcade_15, shutdown pc.
Connected jpac inbetween pc and 15k source switched on and voila!! stable picture on windows xp desktop and maximus, launch game and play!!
Nearly all of the games i played so far seem to be centred...all different sizes of course so I have tried to use the largest at the mo as my "screen filler" and the smaller ones go down from there.
Still running 149 here, just a thought....What would i have to do to update to 151, would it been a pain to update?

Might be better to set it to ms929 :)
or
monitor = custom
and
crt_range0 15450-16050, 50-65, 3.910, 4.700, 6.850, 0.190, 0.191, 1.018, 0, 0, 192, 288, 448, 576

Thanks Sledge, I take it both custom and ms929 are set within the mame config? At least that's how im reading your post...
And the crt range above replaces what is already in there?
Any reason why to set to this? any particular games that cause issues otherwise?
-
So have i done this wrong in VMMaker setting it to "CUSTOM"?
The monitor is an ms9 29...dual sync I believe...
-
Nope, you've done nothing wrong. You're using a generic preset based on standard timings rather than a user submitted one.
-
Hi joeblade,
Thanks for the feedback.
Unless that ms9 29 is actually an autoswitching model, there's not much point in using the whole ms929 preset, otherwise you'll need to be manually switching on the monitor's board now and then.
What Sledge suggested is ok because that way you'll only use the 15 kHz range of the ms9 29, and with those settings horizontal centering might be better (notice the 'might'). Yes, those settings are to apply in mame.ini
-
I see thanks for clarifying Calamity....you know I think im gonna stay with my safe setup at the mo...most games seem to be centering fine..... :)
Just updating my groovymame to 151 at the mo....It never ends!!!

Ok I used the already compiled version with hi+nag+cave etc...and set it up on my xp64 machine....
All seems to be running tickety boo but haven't played with frame delay as yet and left it on 0....just wondering if anyone has had a play with this yet as I found it a real balancing act on the previous GM version between, input lag vs audio skip...
-
I just set it to 1. Can't notice the higher values.

Thanks cools...changed it to 1 and unfortunately the old audio skip issue was back! Not much but splatterhouse really shows up sync issues well...
Changed the audio latency to 2.5 from 2 and it seems to have done the trick....would rather have a tad of audio delay than skipping tbh!!
