Title: Check out my Street Fighter II MAME Pedestal Design
Post by: kaneda on October 24, 2013, 10:44:04 pm
So when I was a kid, Street Fighter II champion edition was my favorite game ever.  I'll never forget the wall of SFII's at the arcade and the lines to play them.  I wanted a MAME pedestal that paid homage to this childhood icon.  What do you think?  Going to make the pedestal itself the Capcom RED, because the Pedestal has a Z shape to it, just like the red Z Cabinets SFII was in...

Nice design - but at the risk of ruining the theme, having six buttons on the outer players equals four buttons that will do nothing. Labeling them with SFII controls seems oddly confusing as well since I assume you'll use the regular sticks for that (and there isn't a 4-player Street Fighter.)

And being that it's a pedestal cabinet - you don't have to angle the controls (though I argue you don't have to do it on non-pedestals either.) Make it wider and stagger the buttons/sticks instead. Or, keeping with the them, why not make it a two-player fighter panel and add a couple of USB ports to add on controls for the occasional four player game instead?

Yeah, I tried that, but it completely ruined the theme, balance of the CPO.  Just looks so sweet with uniform stations.   I think it will look great when done.  Can't wait to share pics. 2-3 weeks.

Search the main forum for "angled joysticks" and do some reading.

Well Street Fighter II isn't a four-player game so the theme is pretty much compromised at this point now, isn't it?

Not trying to sound mean but you should never let the theme control your controls. Honestly, the two players should be focused on. Don't see the point of added gratuitous buttons for nothing more than decoration.
