I just bought a Keywhiz and it came in the mail today. I read it was programmable, so I assumed that any key could be programmed. Apparently not.
Is there software app that will change the actual keyboard input to another key? So that if I hit the "p" key it simulates the windows key so that the windows start menu pops up?
If anyone has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated.

What exactly are you trying to do? You make it sound like you're tring to reprogram a keyboard?
What you can program is what key is sent to the PC when an input from the keywiz is grounded (switch closed).
You should have gotten the app on a floppy with the keywiz.
Email RandyT (www.groovygamegear.com, click on contact us, tech support) and he should be able to hepl you. I've gotten great support from him even.
He checks this forum often too, but contacting him directly is the fastest.

I tried out the program without the keywhiz connected and it crashed my comp. From what I saw before it crashed, it looked like you could just program letters A-O.
I tried it out again, properly this time and it turns out it is quite programmable. WooHoo.
But...
I don't see the windows key and I would like to have that for my cabinet. Is it possible to use the Windows key with the keywhiz?

You can assign whatever key is on the keyboard at the bottom of the programming window. I can't remember if the window key is there...
If not, ask RandyT / groovygamegear tech support, he might be able to help.

Yup, R GUI or L GUI button icons above the numeric keypad on the software screen.
