So I have MY Zero Delay USB encoder hooked up through a cabinet and the encoder is about 24" away from the buttons, the distance puts too much of a strain on the device and it craps out if you hit a button. Is there some way I can alleviate this without shortening the wires? perhaps there are some type of capacitors I could put in line near the power source?

The length has nothing to do with it since a standard jamma harness is much longer and works fine. I saw you mention your issue in your switching thread. Are you completely lifting ALL power to the naomi system along with ground connections when in your "pc" mode?

I ran every connection through the switch... but unplugging the Naomi side snap connectors fixes everything. i'm quite confused now... I'll put up pictures tomorrow.

Any chance that some of the poles aren't normal double-throw connections?
Maybe some poles were designed to be constantly connected to both throws for ground (or power?) to avoid spikes/surges while switching.
To eliminiate that possibility, check for continuity between A1/B1, A2/B2, etc. using the labelling pattern on the DPDT diagram below.

What is the wiring diagram of the ZDE? I couldn't find any wiring schematic, the only pictures I can find are of a PCB with a blob and the "plug in" wire look like they're paired up (two wires for each switch). This leads me to think that it's possible that the switches don't use a true ground as a reference for the switches like the Naomi board does. For example, I've come across some controllers that supply 1/2 voltage on a common rail so analog sensors can detect a +5 or a 0v condition. This allows one pin to sense two switches at the cost of ghosting.
You also might have a short somewhere in your wiring. I think you said both boards are segregated through the switch. But how can the be if removing the Naomi board fixes your problem?

The grounds on the USB ZD encoder are all connected to the same ground buss. You can use just one wire for each input and daisy chain the grounds if you want.

this is true. it does use a common ground. BUT on my zd board, the ground and positives are reversed for some odd reason.

The grounds can easily be seen on the board by turning over. All the outside pins are connected together. On some of the boards I have had this was the colored wire not the black wire. Now I have white and blue wires so there is no color that represents ground just the pin position.

Thanks but what I was after boba answered. I guess a clearer question would've been to ask what the pinout of the encoder is.

Hey I actually got this sorted out, the ground wire on the USB Jack was frayed and down to only one stand of wire. Fixing the pin on the snap connector fixed my problem immediately
