So my wife started getting a little collection together for our son for Christmas. He is a little young for the full gaming portion of it IMO, but I see him going crazy over the figurines in the store, so what do I know? :dunno
Anyway, the SO and myself being habitual collectors in our own right (and Toys R Us sales not helping) we find ourselves with a few extra of those "Power Disks". I even have a few of the Exclusive Tron power ups.
Was just curious if anyone else here was getting into it and need some of my extras to complete their collection. I'll post description/pics if there's any interest.

Without sounding dumb, what is this Disney Infinity I see in Target?
I could Google it but could you give me the low down on this product?

Skylanders Giants: Disney Edition.

I'm not addicted, I swear!
Picked it up a few months ago for my 3 year old. He gets a kick out of it but not as much as I do. I'm a bit of a completionist so it's a great game for me.

Pretty much.
Disney saw the goldmine in the Skylanders business model: Make kids (make kids get their parents to) buy multiple plastic figurines with NFC chips in them to unlock characters in an otherwise pretty average game. Didn't even know about Skylanders until Infinity was announces earlier this year.
Disney took the game engine from their toy story 3 game and applied it to this.
You get a basic set for whatever console you own which consists of a base to "read" the characters and one character each of the first 3 "worlds", Mr. Incredible, Scully from Monsters Inc., and Jack Sparrow. Each "World" is the setting of that character and is basically a game in itself. In order to play cooperatively, you need two characters of that world (see, already getting you to buy 3 more characters right off the bat). Or any 2 characters can play in the "sand-box" mode of the game, where you can use things you unlocked to pretty much build and play whatever you want ala little big planet.
Disney took things one step further with these power discs:
These little guys add power ups, vehicles, scenery, etc to the game and are also NFC enabled. The diabolical part is Disney issued these like trading cards randomly in blind packs, making folks fork over extra $$$ trying to gets ones they are missing. Add to that exclusive figurines or power disks from Toys R Us and say good buy to your disposable income.
I'm not a fan of the power disc side of things, but otherwise the figurines are really well made, and the game is not bad, either. Is it a gimmick? Eh, I see it as Disney combining two ways kids play and profiting from it. I see the figurines no different then when I played with action figures as a kid, and the game lets them re-enact their imagination in the sand-box mode. And you know they will eventually add Marvel and Star Wars into this model. I personally tell anyone interested to wait for the sales TRU does on these. We tend to get most things 50-75% off, which lessens the pain a good deal with our collecting habits. And I've outright banned the purchase of anymore blind disc packs since when you get close to having a complete set, it makes no sense buying anymore packs when you can trade or get one cheaper on ebay (they sell these 2 to a pack for $5 !!!).

Monkeyvoodoo:
I see you already got Woody and Jack Skeleton ;D The wife ordered Woody from Walmart (they got him exclusively first) and they lost her order. She was mighty pissed. I think they have every character except the lone ranger set, didn't think he would be into it but we'll see. Oh they did release two more clear exclusive characters in TRU recently too. Yeah, we have no addictions, either ;)
The extra power discs I have are:
TRU Exclusive Tron Power Disc (2)
Wreck it Ralph - Felix's Repair Power (1)
Wreck it Ralph - King Candy's Dessert Toppings (2)
Cars - C.H.R.O.M.E.'s Armor Shield (1)
Mulan - Kahn (1)
Alice's Wonderland (1)
Nemo - Marlin's Reef (1)
Nemo - Marlin's Seascape (1)
Tangled - Terrain (1)
Tangled - Sky (1)
I think we have more, just these were all I could find at the moment (see now why I had to place the ban, lol)
Really not looking to sell these, just trying to find homes or trade, just shipping is all I ask.

I seem to get the same discs over and over. There's a few on that list that I would mind acquiring. I'll have to dig through my set as well. If you get a full inventory of spares pm me and we can trade

We're 100% purchased except for Violet. We're holding out for the "Girl Power" bundle, to get Rapunzel, Violet and Venelope (which will and up being a duplicate), unless we find out Rapunzel will be available individually, in which case we'll just buy her and violet separately.
So on our list is:
Girl Power Bundle
Frozen Playset
Wreck-it-Ralph Playset
Apprentice Mickey
Phineas and Ferb Playset
Series 2 and 3 discs (hoping for the Target book with complete sets)

I got roped into the Skylanders Stuff. I gotta say I really dig it. I haven't played the Disney Infinity yet, but it just hasn't jumped out at me game wise.
-
Not roped but I did buy it. I did buy the game when it launched and it's rather boring. My daughter likes it but I can't see spending any money on the extra pieces. Now is Nintenso did something like this with a Smash Bros style gameplay I'd spend a fortune.

my son loves both!!!! it's a racket I say......

*sigh*
my wife.
this is just creative DLC.

Anyone stuck in the vicious cycle of collecting those power discs, there's an easy purchase starting this weekend. Series 2 (yes, already) of the discs can be bought in a complete set with album for 59.99:

It's an exclusive bundle only at Target. Sounds pricey at first, until you re-live the nightmare of the blind packs from Series 1. I hate the blind packs model. My morbid justification is I'm saving money so my wife is not buying a few packs for $5 each every time we are out shopping. Includes the "rares", but I'm sure Toys R US will have some exclusives as well.

I take it you've never played any CCG's?

Better than Pogs :laugh2:
-
I'd like to say CCG was before my time, but my birth certificate would say that was a lie.
And when it's normally $5 for two little pieces of plastic, yeah the blind pack model sucks.
-
pogs man...remember pogs?
I had so many people pissed at me cause I won their pogs. :lol
I would frisbee the crappy pogs into the creek I crossed on my way home after school. :laugh2:
I think I may still have them someplace.

Thank the maker!
I'm really tired of the blind packaging too. I like to collect but don't like gambling to finish it
