I'm told that one of the arcade games I will be working on has a built-in degausser.
If this is true, where is this located?
How can I tell if it has one or not?
How do I activate it?
I've already checked the software, there is no option for it.
-
Generally black coiled wire around the monitor chassis. Usually automatically fired up at powerup of said monitor.
-
It activates upon each power up, gotcha!
I was expecting to find a button near the flyback or on the back of the neck.
I'm not sure if this monitor has a coil or not.
Any suggestions on where to buy an inexpensive one that does a decent job?
-
u might not be able to see it right off of the hop
as it is right up tight at the top of the bell of the pix tube
from the back of the tube looking foward
u will c the anode lead
above that u should c a black coil going around the tube
that will be the degauss coil
they are all auto, expect very few
start there

If it is auto, and I still have an 8"X8" rainbowed area near the center.... ideas?
-
Find sumone with an actual degaussing coil (or buy one)? You could try with a magnet.........but I've not had alot of luck with that.
-
a magnet strong 1 will tell if the tube is heavliy gaused
another trick is to take a soldering gun,not an iron but a gun
remove the tip, plug in monitor, then turn gun on,plugged in also
staright at the center, and rotate 1 way only from inside to outside
then walk backwards turn gun off and see it it went away or shifted
that will tell us the trick of the tail which i will explain ltr

I don't have a soldering gun. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and get a coil.
I just got a job working on 400+ machines. I'm sure I'm going to be doing this to quite a few of them anyways.

now that is sound judgement.:)
do your self a fav and keep crib notes
ie model # what u found and did
these come in very handy
side note here if u have scrap harddrives
tear 1 down, and snag its magnet
it is rare earth style..one of the strongest we know of
comes in very very handy for this problem,it will tell u where u are going in a no time

What what I use the magnet for? How is it used?
-
in 2 posts back i asked u about a soldering gun..
u said no
a post before said a magnet would do the same effect
i am pointing u to the strongest magnet we know of
with out buying 1 >deguase coil<
it will do the same trick to tell u where u are going..ie full deguase or just de-maging the tube,u see if the monitior was in with magnets or a stronger feild then the built on board deguase can hanlde u will get the same effect..>guased tube<
now with the mag it acts the same way as a solder gun..give it a whirill
u will see its effects..do it the exact way i explained to u...
get back to us

OK, I am following you.
I'll give that a shot and see what happens.
