Title: Help out a Newbie
Post by: Mr. Dude on November 20, 2003, 10:47:36 am
Hey guys, I've been coming here a while and have just registered.  Anyway, I'm a total newbie with MAMEWAH and was wondering if you guys could give me some help.  The problem that I'm having with MAMEWAH is that when I try and start a game with MAME or ZiNC I get a command line that flashes real quick and then takes me back to the game list in MAMEWAH...  I've played with a lot of settings like showing rom extensions, show DOS box, etc. and the problem still persists.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

look in debug.log in your mamewah directory.
It should show the command that mamewah tried to execute.
Chances are something about the command is wrong, like you're missing the path or something like that.

If you can't see what's wrong open a DOS window, go to your mamewah directory, then cut and paste or retype the command from the debug file and you should see whatever error message it's giving you.

Did you install according to the instructions in stuzza's site? (a dozen posts down on this forum)

I tried checking the debug file and it didn't have any info in it.... yep I installed according to the instructions on Stuzza's site as well.  I'm not sure but it's acting exactly like if you click on the mame or zinc .exe file (outside of mamewah that is) how it flashes a DOS box very quick and then goes back to the previous screen.  It's almost as if it's opening the emulator without typing the rom command in.  Do you have any other suggestions?  I'm stumped... and like I said this only happens with MAME and ZINC. ???

Well... I seemed to fix the problem.  For some reason I had to only select use long file names and leave the other two as false and it works!  Thanks for your suggestions though papaschtroumpf.
