Title: anyone using a ps2 emulator in their cabinet?
Post by: severdhed on October 16, 2013, 04:30:30 pm
i can't help but notice that there are of good fighting games available for the ps2 that arent really playable in mame, i know there are some ps2 emulators out there, i was just wondering if anyone was using them on their cabinets, and what kind of pc horsepower is required?  I've got a phenom II x4 3.2ghz processor in my cabinet, but i'm using the on-board radeon hd4200 graphics.  I would assume that i'd have to upgrade the graphics card to get these games to be playable, but i don't know where to start.  i dont want to spend an ton of money on a video card just for a few games.  so, is it worth my time and money to try to get the ps2 emulation working?

You would be better off buying a PS2 Phat, modding it and get a cheap Composite2VGA.

i already have a ps2 and an xbox i could put in the cabinet and i'm using a LCD tv for my monitor so i could easily handle the video/audio...this issue i have is interfacing the controls.  I have a 4 player panel using an ipac 4. i know there are console adapters for the ipac, but from the looks of them, they are only for the ipac 2.  plus then there is all the switching cables, tv inputs etc just to play those games....if the emulator works, then it only makes sense to use it so it is just a matter of switching mala to another game list. (trying to make it easy for my kids)

That is the plan, I need to rip some isos, but my cab pc is busy creating mame video snaps for the next long while, might not get to try it for a day or two..I was just trying to see if anyone else had tried it already

I have PS2 on my driving cabinet.

It works.... most of the time.  But you need a beefy system to run the games properly.

Running pcsx2 with a 4 Ghz quad, 2 GB AMD 7850 OC, 8 GB DDR3 & SSD.

Runs games at full speed, some games require some tweaking and often this tweaking will cause issues with other games.

They need a settings per/game feature.

My previous 3.4 dual with AMD 5750 did not run all my ripped iso's at full speed.

* oh running these fighting games...

CvS2
MvC2
SC III
TTT
Tekken 5
VF4

Best of luck,
Jason

You need a beast of a computer to pull off the ps2 emulation right now.  Like a beastly beast, like a super duper turbo monstrous beastly terrible beast.

buy a mod kit and a fat boy

You might want to edit that first sentence.   :police:

i had to upgrade the video card in my pc (8800 GT), but now i have the ps2 emulation working. mk deception runs well, which was my goal. however i have  problem when exiting a game. I use mala as my launcher which launches the games fine, but when i exit the game, the emulator keeps running and takes focus. i have to click to close it which sucks....what can i do to resolve this? Emulator is pcsx2.

First try setting the Mala hotkeys to close (it's on one of the tabs where you set up "other emus".

If that doesn't work, download closemul.  Put closemul.exe in the emulator folder, set the exit keys in closemul.ini and add closemul.exe to your command line that launches the emulator.  I think the model 2 example in uncle T's guide has it.

If that doesn't work, kill it with an autohotkey script.

Took me a few GCards, mobos and CPUs to get straight with pcsx2 and Dolphin - but this setup works great:

Intel Core i7 920 @ 4Ghz (OC'd)
Gigabyte EX58-DS4
Corsair 1333 DDR3 - 6GB
KFA Nvidia GTX-660 EX OC 2G DDR5
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Pro
Corsair CX500 CX 80+ Bronze 500W PSU
Zalman CNPS9900-MAX Red Ultra Aero Flower

Most older components can pick up cheaply recon or 2nd. Made massive difference to me cab :) (when it's finally built!)

btw - creating mame snaps? You checked out EmuMovies?

With that setup can you output 640x480 15Khz?  I'm looking to upgrade the power on my MAME PC but the video card HAS to be compatible with soft15khz
