Title: white translucent acrylic?
Post by: SavannahLion on October 15, 2013, 01:16:25 pm
In going with my blue/white theme I'm thinking white smoked acrylic might look better over the screen. Best (or worst I guess) is about 30% light transmission. I believe the ideal smoked is between 60-80% light transmission?

Can't find much of anything out there though. Maybe thin some white acrylic paint and spray it on?

Side note: This is for a stats screen, not the primary display.

Go to sign shop for the white acrylic.

I got white acrylic from Amazon for the Panels on my Battletech Cab and it worked very well.  That being said it would NOT work to see through it.  I used white, spray painted black and then Laser etched controls onto it.

Yeah, I thought so. I'm hoping I can figure a nice solution out. Some sort of milky white. Ultra cool if I can find something that polarizes but oh well....

I have a few sheets around here. I don't know if it transparent enough for what you want to do. I could do some testing for you. One of the sheets was given to us as a sample, pretty sure it's big enough for you. Would help you out for the cost of shipping. Let me know thanks.

Digging through some of the sample chips I have, seriously this is from one manufacturer...

Here is the set of translucent white "Opal" acrylics

The 75% light transmission is you best bet

That is held directly flat on the monitor surface but it still might be a bit too white.

The next step from that is matt clear. It gets used in picture framing.

and on the screen surface

After seeing selfie's post, my white is way too opaque. However I did just pick up some 1/4" clear acrylic yesterday, 64 sq ft total.

Think there would be interest in the clear here at byoac? Could offer custum cnc cutting for bezels, cp, marquees. Got a good deal on it and could pass it on.
