Title: Easy gamelist + emulator navigation?
Post by: fkane on October 06, 2013, 08:06:20 am
To keep things simple on my cabinet, I'd like to be able to navigate across gamelists from multiple emulators using the left/right motion of my joystick, and then selecting specific games with up/down. So for example, left/right would move between N64 games, MAME fighting games, MAME classic games, SNES games, etc. lists.

The problem is that Mala defines different keys for switching between gamelists for a currently selected emulator, and between emulators. So navigating across multiple gamelists from multiple emulators means adding complexity that will turn off new users of the cabinet.

What I really want is one pair of keys that switches between a set of gamelists irrespective of their underlying emulator.

So far the only workaround I can think of is setting up MAME several times as an additional, duplicate emulator for each MAME gamelist I want, and using the emulator selection to switch between these different incarnations of MAME with their own specific gamelists.

Anyone have a cleaner solution?

Thanks!

Honestly I like (and have set up) using P1 button 1 + Left/Right to switch emulators.
This way say I'm in MAME - pressing left right would cycle thru my ALL - FAVORITES - MOST PLAYED lists, then holding down player 1 button 1 + L/R I would cycle emulators.
Once in the emulator L/R cycles the lists.

I printed out a lil graphic instruction card that I keep by the cabinet for users.
Sometimes I forget how I configured things if its long between plays.
Like P1 button 1 + Up/Down allows me to jump letters in list
