Title: Fitting 2nd Hand Joysticks

Hi

I am finally starting to plan and make my control panel.  I have all the buttons and I bought 2 2nd hand Joysticks from UK Ebay.  I have taken some pics here: http://www.wize.demon.co.uk/misc/stick/

My question is... How do I actually fit them to wood? I can't work out how to do it. (i'm using MDF)

Can anyone point me to a good info site or talk me through it.

I can't make out those pictures on my work monitor (too dark), but if you are having trouble trying to get your controls to work on a wooden panel is is probably because they were designed for a metal one.

Cheap and easy way to have the best of both worlds (since having an all steel control panel made can be expensive).

Make your basic panel out of wood. Get a piece of sheet metal that is the same size as the top of it. That is going to be going on top of the wood. You can mount your joysticks (and other controls that are designed for metal) on the sheet metal, and then just cut out holes in the wood for their bases to poke through.

That allows you to use much thinner sheet metal than you would need if you didn't have the wood supporting it.

no my problem is, I litterally do not know how to take the joysticks apart and physically fit them to wood  ???

Hammer...and Duct Tape!  ;D

Disassembly...
Remove the nuts holding the mounting plate in place. Remove the C shaped fastener on the bottom center of the stick...now you can take it apart. Remember the order of any spacers etc... so you can fit it back together.

Mounting...
Base goes under the CP, mounting plate on top of it, and stick through it (now is when remembering the order of any bits and peices comes in handy). Put the fastener that you took off the bottom of the stick back on, replace and tighten the nuts, and your done.

Easy!  ;)

Seriously, just take your time and don't doubt yourself and you'll be fine.
