Title: Mala\Mame saving coin input
Post by: CoryBee on September 18, 2013, 07:07:17 pm
I can't remember where I saw it. But when I first started messing with Mala and Mame I ran into a plugin for one or the other that saved the fact that you inserted a quarter even when you switched games. Anyone know what I am talking about?

Just did a bunch of research and it seems to be frowned upon

What's more frowned upon than selling MAME & ROMS with a cab?

Selling them with a cab that's turnkey for public use and profit!  ;)

PH here we come!

i understand the argument, but i can also see how it would be very useful in a house with small children, being able to easily limit the number of tokens they can play per day or something like that.

Here's a link to the discussion about it. Good reading:

Yea I found some posts on this and the discussion didn't go too well.

I was asked for an interesting feature on a cabinet that I built for someone. Wants to make it so when you put a coin in it gives you 5 plays per game. They said it was way too easy to beat games when you have unlimited lives. Kind of like a lockout feature. One coin 5 Plays.

I figured there was a coin management software I could tweak but no one made theirs public cause of pressure...

That sounds more like a MAME tweak thing.

has several new coin management features centered around children (such as dropping in random credits, limiting gameplay, limiting credits etc.)

That was quoted from a user named headkraze

Need something like that. I quite like the idea of limiting play. My brother bragged about beating the crap out of DoDonPachi, even though the only reason he got anywhere was cause he died a bajillion times and bombed the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- out of everything

 :banghead:

If the coin management thing isn't what I need. What could I do to achieve this?

Wasn't your original post about maintaining credits while switching games?  :lol

If you compile your own MAME build that allows autohotkey to work, you could  have autohotkey send the coin button 5 times when it is pressed once and then not accept input from it again until after the exit button has been pressed.  It doesn't work with standard builds because MAME uses raw input instead of going through windows.

I was looking for the program not the effect. Couldn't remember what it was called or where I saw it.

Compiling MAME failed horribly for me not so long ago..... :(

AHK I am pretty good with though
