Title: Rewiring a tankstick with an ipac2..Radio Shack wire ok?
Post by: swindmiller on September 17, 2013, 01:25:31 pm
I am removing my tanksticks interface and replacing it with an ipac2. Can I use this to rewire it: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2049738 (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2049738)
I was going to re-use the existing wire but may want to just do it from scratch.

Thanks,
Scott

There is no reason why that wouldn't work.  But it is solid cable so be gentle with it, as long as you plan no real sharp bends and you will be fine.   The other issue with solid cable is getting a good crimp connection.  I use a little bit of solder at the crimp end so there is no way of it sliding off.

The link is to solid (not stranded) wire.

If you are soldering it will work OK, but if you are crimping it will not.

This (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=21982276) or this (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2049745&filterName=Cable+type&filterValue=22+gauge) (or similar) is the variety that will work for crimps.

Perfect...that's what I needed to know.

Are you sure the 2nd link is correct? It has the same description as what I posted: UL-Recognized Hookup Wire (22AWG)

Oh...the stranded says Web Only. I was hoping to put something up locally but may just have to order it. I get free Prime shipping thru amazon so I may just go there and get the wire and connectors.
So I should just look for 22awg Stranded?

Thanks,
Scott

"Three 25-ft. spools of stranded, 22-gauge wire."

The solid 3-pack is here (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2049742&filterName=Cable+type&filterValue=22+gauge) -- 90 ft. (3 x 30 ft.)

Amazon should have some good offers -- haven't looked lately.

Also consider looking over at Paradise for precrimped wires. (16 packs of wires and daisy chains FTW)

EDIT: Amazon links to 100 foot rolls of automotive 22AWG stranded black wire with PVC insulation here (http://www.amazon.com/Automotive-Copper-0-0253-Diameter-Length/dp/B003HGHM5K) and here (http://www.amazon.com/UL1015-Commercial-Copper-Bright-Diameter/dp/B003HGHQ24).

So at Paradise....like this: http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/jamma-harnesses/402-16-wire-rainbow-packtm-with-187-quick-connector.html (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/jamma-harnesses/402-16-wire-rainbow-packtm-with-187-quick-connector.html)
and

I do need the .187 right?

That would be alot easier.

.187" is the most commonly used size.

Just to be sure, check the tabs to verify they aren't .250".
