I'm in the market for 2 AimTrak guns. Does anyone know if I can essentially build a set using the recoil shells, the recoil kit, and the electronics kit for a total price of $87 vs $130?

I know it doesn't come with the sensor bar, but is there anything else I'm missing?

No. Even tells you right on the order page about the recoil shells:
Replacement Aimtrak gun shells with lugs for retention of recoil solenoid. Available in red or black. IMPORTANT: It is not possible to construct a gun using these shells only, as the internal parts are not included.
Missing the trigger, button, and probably other needed parts.

Oh, duh. Thanks.

Speaking of which, I will shortly have for sale a pair of aimtrak non recoil shells. Mint. with no triggers, buttons or boards.
It's not really the greatest way to sell a product, but I guess that's how things came about.

If you search on ebay you can probably pick up a couple of NAMCO NPC-103 G-CON guns for a fiver each, you can then use the trigger, trigger switch and side buttons as a straight swap in the new shells, That is what I did but as Andy told me the side button switches on his guns are tactile and in the Namco ones they are only membrane switches. Still work OK though

Awesome! Thanks for the tip. If I can't get the recoil ones like epicfatigue has, then I'll go this route. I don't think I'll mind the membrane switches if the savings is roughly $40; that would be an insanely expensive switch.

One more thing to note, the front lens from the Namco guns are convex lenses and so are unsuitable for the Aimtrack modules but you could just leave them out or cut up a CD case or something similar to make the lenses, Good luck.

Thanks. Maybe I missed this, but do the AimTrak recoil kits have moving slides, or so they just vibrate?
-
The outside of the gun is just a solid shell but you get a reasonably heavy solenoid that jolts the gun, It's not a vibration more of a kick back.

Sounds like it's worth doing. Thanks.

I think I ended up with an extra 36V power supply - so give a shout if you go recoil - I'll make you a good deal if you want it.

Will do. Thanks, man.

How should I plan on incorporating my sensor bar into my painted acrylic LCD bezel? Do the UV LEDs always glow? I'm assuming that tint is ok, but paint blocks them completely.
-
Yea the UV LED's are lit at all times, I've seen where people have drilled holes in there bezel the size of the led's so they just poke through...Tint is ok...I know in the software that you can adjust the output, As long as the gun can see the led's you should be ok.
