Title: Carbide Forstner bit...
Post by: Richardgregory on September 16, 2013, 09:58:02 am
People are saying that if I"m going to be making 1 1/8" holes into  MDF, I should not use anything less than than Carbide material based forstner bit.  Steel bits I"m told will dull after a few holes and create a mess, so better to spend the extra $$ and get the Carbide.

Thoughts?

I drilled a 4player CP with a standard steel spade bit and didn't have any probs. The only trick I used was to drill a small pilot hole in the center of each hole, then use the spade to drill about half through, flip the material and drill from the other side the rest of the way, That way you get completely clean holes on both sides.
