Hi again!
I made a post a while ago aboug my gaming on a 14" problems.
Untill now I have accepted that the picture is overscanned about 1 centimeter all around the screeen, but it really get too annoying.
So I thought id pop into the service menu and change the geometry a bit :)
Problem is that i cannot find any codes for my tv, or the trick to get into the service menu.
my picture looks like this in windown and same when i play games.. for example undercover cops (irem), then i can hardly see my energy bar.. cannot see the score in zero wing ect..
NOTE! The startmenu bar is made double height in this picture!! usually i dont see it at all if its single row. using 640x480 also causes extreme flicker in desktop.. not when playing thou

my tv is a thomson 14ms15gt (tx807EU chassis) anyone knows where to find the service manu codes for this tv?
Searched everywhere but cant find the code.. only some scematics ect
or is this really the best i can get? using generic_15 in mame.ini (pal and ntsc tv modes looks even worse when using them)
Thanks for reading this far! :)
Best regards / Stefan

try this to enter the service menu:
To enter service mode, switch OFF the TV by remote control [Standby] position and wait till the Standby LED at its front panel to off.
Press "VT" button on the remote control, and switch ON the TV with its mains switch.
To call an item to adjust, use Prog+ and Prog (-) buttons on the remote control.
To adjust the data value to selected item, use Vol+ and Vol (-) buttons on the remote control.
To exit from service menu, switch OFF the set by its mains ON/OFF switch.

Jadder, where'd you get that? If you have the service manual, post a link!
bytestorm, google "service manual" and your model number.
Are you sure it has a service menu? If it's a curved tube it could be an analog chassis, in which case there should potentiometers inside for adjustments.

As I said in my post, I searched everywhere for the code :) of course I googled it already.
But there might be an universal method to reach the menu. I'm off to try the suggested method asap!
This one is fairly new so I doubt it'll have pots but ill check. I got around 15 old crt tvs in my workshop and only 1 had pots on the chassis :( all other are digital.

hey m8, im not sure how to execute this on my tv set..
could you please clarify this a little?
" switch OFF the TV by remote control [Standby] position and wait till the Standby LED at its front panel to off."
alright, just turn off the tv with the remote and wait for the led to become red?
"Press "VT" button on the remote control, and switch ON the TV with its mains switch."
aint got no "VT" or "TV" switch (incase vt was a typo) on my remote... and the TVs main switch is a toggle switch, meaning if i push it when its in standby, the tv will shut of completly, not even standby.
thanks

hmm, i see what u mean its not a very good description :-\
dont really know what to suggest, could you post a pic of your remote control?

try this perhaps:
1 Turn set to standby using remote.
2 Turn off with set's AC switch & wait till the red standby light has faded away to nothing.
3 While holding the magenta Text button on TV turn on AC switch.
4 A service menu should now be on screen.
i think that's for your tv model, i found that, here:

Wow man thanks!! wonder why i didnt find it.. :( maybe because i was only searching with EU in the end?
thank alot anyway!
cant still get into the service menu thou, but at one time i managed to get another menu up at start. but that was not the service menu :(
just a bunch of random values FFI=off 4I 5BD etc.. no readable text.. but maybe i was onto something... cant get it to show again :(
haha strange.. i will continue trying but thank you so far!!!
-
no readable text..
Sounds like a service menu to me.
-
oh i forgot to mention, many tv's must be in normal (tv stations) picture mode in order to get to the service menu screen, and wont allow it if you are in eg. AV mode
if you managed to get to where u saw some random values (they were probably firmware/revision data) perhaps you entered the service mode at that point, and then it may be a case of pressing something else on the remote control to take you to the other pages (eg. geometry settings) where you can begin to make changes

That's actually most likely it. Most service menu values are like this.....you either find a list of the values and WRITE DOWN STUFF BEFORE YOU CHANGE ANYTHING......or experiment.
