Title: MAME32 in XP question (newbie here)
Post by: knaack on March 28, 2002, 01:47:48 pm
I have MAME32 on WindowsXP.  It works great.  The only annoying thing is that when I double click on a game to play.  The screen blanks out then it returns to Windows.  BUT there is a running game on the taskbar.  I have to click on it everytime.  When I click on it, it returns to the game that I wanted to play in full screen. I can go from there.

This happens every time for every game.  When I escape from the game.  It returns to Windows and the running game on the taskbar is gone, which it should.  So the only annoying thing is the game is created in a full screen window then it gets minimized right away.  I have the latest MAME32 .59 version.

Any ideas to defeat this?

No ideas, BUT I have the same problem with Mame32 V.58 in Windows 2k. I have noticed it doesn't do this for ALL roms, just like 90% of them.....

I don't have a solution, but I can say that I have NEVER had this happen to me in XP...with mame32 .57, .58, or .59.

So, the only thing I can suggest is to go to Options / Default Options/ Display tab and make sure that "start out maximized" is checked. Other than that, I don't know...

YES!  I KNOW this one!!  I had it happen in Windows 2000.   Frusterating, isn't it.

You have something on your windows desktop set to "always on top".  For me, I moved my Quicklaunch toolbar to the side of the screen and set "Always on top".  When I turned off that option, no more problems.

Tell me if that helps.

No sh*t!  Thanks!  That seem to solve the problem.   Well, now have to decide if I want all that 20+ shortcuts in the same row with the start button or pin them to the start menu.  Or just leave it as is.

I wonder if that is a bug in MAME32's executable.  I'm going to send them a bug report and see what they say.

I would likely believe it is a bug.  My other games or applications that fill the screen don't have that problem.  It is only MAME32 that seems to have trouble with it.
