I can't seem to find anywhere that sells the Mag-Stik Plus that is the Balltop instead of the Bat top. Even in the Ultimarc site, it's not even available to purchase from their store online, but instead they sell the ball top shaft instead.

Apparently, you have to buy the shaft with a balltop separately. Currently, the long length shaft are the only ones available, the regular length are out of stock.

$15 for the ball top - shaft....that is a bit of a 'rip off' I think.
Maybe I'll just get the Bat tops then. But I'm not sure if I"ll like them....anyone can chip in which they prefer? I don't know if it makes a difference in terms of play/comfort.

It is a rip off. Very wasteful. I do not understand why you must convert them, and can not just buy them with a ball top.
I would suggest buying just one unit and trying it to see if you like how it feels. I ended up switching from the mag stik to the sanwa jlf's because you can customize every aspect of how it feels. However, I lost the instant switching capabilities that the mag stik has. It's something I can live with since I really am more interested in 8-way games.

I'm a bit concerned about getting joysticks that have a restrictor plate, having to reach under and switch manually seems too much trouble; hence I was leaning towards the Mag Stik Plus - it does have a short throw, and I don't have the experience with testing one out, so it's a hit miss on whether I"ll like it.
Worse case scenario: I'll swap them out, but does that mean I'll have to redo my CP, or at the very least route out a wider hole.

I had ball tops, not mag sticks though, and ended up going to bat tops. Couldn't get used to the feel of the ball tops. After playing countless hours in the arcades back in the early 90's when every machine had bats, I guess its what I'm used to.
