Title: Trouble with a purchased machine
Post by: Bugs on September 07, 2013, 11:29:30 am
A few years ago I purchased a multi game jamma cabinet, pac man, donkey kong, frogger... a few weeks ago it stopped loading the games.  when I turn it on, it loads and plays the demo sequence but is unresponsive to starting the games.  I opened the unit up and emailed the sticker on the board and they said it was the board.  I purchased a new board from him and now it is still doing the same thing.  When I go into test mode it shows all of the buttons and joystick as working properly as I get on screen feedback when all are used.  Since I know it is not the board now by process of elimination, my next step would be the power supply?  maybe it is not supplying enough constant power for the board to boot a game?  any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Get a multimeter and test your voltage, the +5 volts is the one you want to be concerned with, a lot of those multiboards don't even use the other voltages.

However I am inclined to think that the problem is really your start button, as it is unlikely that 2 multiboards are going to respond in the exact same way to an out of spec voltage situation. Plus those 60 in 1 boards are really tolerant of out of range voltages. I have one running perfectly with a half broken power supply that only puts out 4.5 volts.

The start button shows working in test mode.  Maybe i will try swapping it out with another button and I will check the voltage.  Thanks for the suggestions.

ok, just a follow up.  I checked and adjusted the voltage to 5 from 4.4, that did not seem to fix it and tested the start button and that seemed to be fine.  Then I thought I would try the coin mechanism and after switching the coin sensor, it started working. HMMM, not sure how that got changed from free play to coins but I am not going to question it if it is working...  thanks :banghead:

Oh, you want to be running 5 volts, not 4.4. Mine is running super low because it has a cruddy power supply in it. Turn that voltage back up to stock.
