Hi, I been wanting for a long time to get my monitor preset. However, I did not know my monitor type until recently I went to the monitor section and Rick Neiman help me with that. Here is the link of the thread. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,134350.0.html. (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,134350.0.html.) Since I know its a Rodotron 666B-29 and found the manual on this site: http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/Rodotron_666#Documentation. (http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/Rodotron_666#Documentation.) I wanted to know what other information I need to give in order to get some code put into my groovyUme to maximize my settings.
Thank you.

Hi rock145,
According to its service manual, that's a tri-sync monitor, so I'd just start with the standard tri-sync preset, using this option:
monitor arcade_15_25_31
Then start playing games that use the different ranges. If you find them off centered from one range to the other, then it might be a good idea to work out some custom ranges starting from there.

Hi, Calamity thanks for the reply. Here are some games logs and photos that shows Neo Geo games with black bars on top, bottom, and left side. Example Art of Fighting:

My bad, I thought I made the change. I will put monitor arcade_15_25_31. The reason I had it like that It was because It made my progressive games interlace and bigger and some games that were scramble not scramble.
-
Here are the right logs with monitor arcade_15_25_31. Neo Geo games like Art of fighting and capcom games like super streefighter 2 look the same as above pictures except for 19xx the is crop in the middle.

fix the issue with the games that came out with border on top and bottom. I Ajusted the V-size on the back of the monitor now games are full screen. The only problem remains is that many games come out scrolling but if I change the monitor to generic_15 the games do not scroll.
-
Games are scrolling due to a high H freq. Before trying a custom preset, try finding an H Freq potentiometer.
OK, found it in the manual you posted, it's named H Hold, try adjusting it a little bit with one of the problematic games running.

Thanks Calamity your the man!. I did what you suggested and none of them scroll with monitor arcade_15_25_31. How can something so simple cause problems. Getting to near perfect except that the vertical games that are progressive are not full screen but is better than before the size is bigger but not full. When I was playing around with arcade_31 before I notice that progressive vertical games that got scale to 768 became full size don't know if that helps. Can this monitor do 720x480p? maybe that resolution will make progressive vertical games full screen.

There are like 40 games that are badly size in the middle these are the

The chassis is the same as a C3129 WeiYa, you can use those settings.

In the monitor preset section I don't see C3129 WeiYa unless is the same as another they have there.

I was looking around in this site and it suggested that the rodotron 666B is a good replacement for Nanao MS-2931
http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/Nanao_MS-2931 (http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/Nanao_MS-2931)
could I use Nanao MS-2931 Presets with my monitor here is the paragraph that says it
Tube/Yoke Information
The MS2931 and MS2934 share the same tube and yoke, only the chassis differs. It is a Toshiba tube with less curvature than an MS9 but more than a 29e31s on the longer side (the horizontal side if in yoko orientation). The MS2930, MS2931, and MS2934 are all compatible with each other. The correct replacement chassis is a Wei Ya 3129b or Rodotron 666b.

I've checked, it is in the presets - m3129 Wei-Ya M3129
C3129 is just the chassis unless I'm mistaken.

Thanks according to my findings this is closest to mine. Can Somebody confirm this before I give it a go.

The presets of MS-2931 works with Rodotron 666b. However, there is still the issue with 40 vertical games cropped in the center. It's better than before in that every time I switch from one game resolution its faster and perfectly size. Flying tiger now is full screen gonna check some other vertical flyers to see. It's definitely an improvement from before.
-
After going through the vertical games I only found that 3 or 4 games out of the 40 post above that were not cropped . For now I am gonna leave it in Generic_15 because all vertical games are full screen with that option.

Hi rock145,
First of all, thanks for posting pictures and logs, I wish all people asking for help did the same as you, it makes things much easier.
You have two issues going on there. First problem is you don't have 24 kHz resolutions available. This is because you didnt set VMMaker to do so. Probably using the MS-2931 preset in VMMaker will help. Basically you need to have one 1234x384 resolution. Once you have this, vertical games that use 384x224-rotated will fill the screen, because the 24 kHz range will be used instead of the 31 kHz range as it is now.
Second problem, it's actually a problem about the arcade_15_25_31 preset that I recommended. This is because of the way the default 31 kHz is defined, it doesn't stretch the resolutions below 448p as it should, that's why you're seeing those games so small.
The way this is defined in MS2930 fixes the problem, as you noticed:
crt_range0 15450.00-16050.00,50.00-65.00,3.190,4.750,6.450,0.191,0.191,1.164,0,0,192,288,448,576
crt_range1 23900.00-24900.00,50.00-65.00,2.870,3.000,4.440,0.451,0.164,1.148,0,0,320,384,0,0
crt_range2 31000.00-32000.00,50.00-65.00,0.330,3.580,1.750,0.316,0.063,1.137,0,0,480,512,0,0
However, try running VMMaker with the MS2930 preset, and then try GroovyMAME again with the same preset too.

Thanks Calamity I really appreciate your help. After finishing checking all vertical games only 15 games don't go full screen and are
cropped in the center of the screen. Here are some loges of the games. However, when I ran vmmaker it gave this error:
vmmaker.ini error in line 74 cr-range0, vmmaker.ini error in line 75 cr-range1, vmmaker.ini error in line 76 cr-range2 .
I went to the vmmaker.ini them I Input your code and left fhe monitor as custom. I went to ume.ini and put arcade_15_25_31.

Here are some more
-
The weirdest thing happened I used NANAO MS-2930/MS-2931 preset . I switch from 75 Ohm to 1k OHM impedance and the 15 games that did not full screen are now full screen. However, there are still some vertical games that come out cropped in the middle so I change it back to 75 Ohm.

You're still using the wrong settings in ume.ini, see your logs:
SwitchRes: Monitor: arcade_15_25_31 Orientation: vertical
BTW, the crt_range lines are ONLY for MAME/UME. VMMaker uses the old monitor_specs line.
However, you may leave VMMaker alone by now, because you have already created all the required resolutions. Now, in ume.ini, try the following:
monitor custom
crt_range0 15450.00-16050.00,50.00-65.00,3.190,4.750,6.450,0.191,0.191,1.164,0,0,192,288,448,576

Hi calamity thanks for your help. I Put in your latest code in the ume.ini. I got the same result as the previous
post. Maybe I doing something wrong. Ok so I only put the cr ranges into ume.ini and not touch the vmmaker ini. Do
I put ms-2930 in the vmmaker ini or leave it as custom or do I put it in ume.ini ms-2930? Here are my inis so you
take a look.
-
Again :)
You need to use this option in ume.ini:
monitor custom
This is what you have:
monitor arcade_15_25_31
You need "monitor custom" for the crt_range lines to be processed.
-
I just finish checking all the vertical games and all of them are not cropped in the middle anymore. I could not have don't it without your help calamity you are the best :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :burgerking: . Looking at some of the games resolution is there a way to make some of the vertical games that go 640x480 go higher like 768x512p the games with those resolutions look amazing.
-
I added resolution 1234x384 and I don't why switchres does not pick it up in vertical games?

when I ran vmmaker I put the ms2930 preset codes vmmaker.ini then I put it in ume.ini . That's the only way I get to boot to 640x480@60
If I put the code you provided me with I boot up in interlace monitor custom . Then I erase ms2930 codes from ume.ini and put your code into ume.ini Don't know if this will make it have different results. So the set up is basically ms2930 codes in vmmaker and your code in ume.ini monitor custom.
-
Try opening the 25 kHz range a little bit so that more vertical games can be calculated through this range:
crt_range1 23900.00-24900.00,50.00-65.00,2.870,3.000,4.440,0.451,0.164,1.148,0,0,336,400,0,0

I really don't get what you mean. You shouldn't be touching VMMaker since a couple of posts. When I told you to leave VMMaker alone, above. The crt_range lines are ONLY for ume.ini.

Ok. So I put this code into the ume.ini and ran vmmaker.

However, most vertical games were at 640x480 I don't know why but vmmaker is behaving like it does with this code

My codes are for ume.ini
You must not run vmmaker all the time. Once you had the resolutions created with the ms2930 preset, the other day, you don't have to touch it anymore. Just play with the crt_ranges in ume.ini. You're not supposed to run vmmaker any time I pass you new crt_ranges. If, however, you run vmmaker, don't expect to have consistent results until you reboot.

Thanks for clearing that out. I thought that every time I had new crt ranges I had to run vmmaker so the crt range would get process. Know I wont make that mistake again. However, when I ran the vmmaker when you gave me the latest rangest the 1234x384 resolution got erase. I will have to added again.
-
got back again 1234x384 and put your latest crt range into ume.ini. After that, I checked some of the vertical games and games are cropped in the middle. But with the code on the bottom some games are 1234x480.
crt_range0 15450.00-16050.00,50.00-65.00,3.190,4.750,6.450,0.191,0.191,1.164,0,0,192,288,448,576

Is there a v-size function in groovyume? If I use v-size on the back of the monitor the games are full screen
but it messes up the other games and they look zoom and with big thick scanlines.
-
I would say that this range 123900.00-24900.00,50.00-65.00,2.870,3.000,4.440,0.451,0.164,1.148,0,0,336,400,0,0
is in the right track because more vertical are displaying
at their native resolution compare to before. There are only a few games that come out
cropped in the middle they are:

ashura blaster
asuka & asuka

It seems like you have messed up the ume.ini setup.
Now, make sure NOT to run VMMaker any more, your current modelines are already perfect for the setup we are looking for.
Just edit ume.ini, and use the following lines:
monitor custom
crt_range0 15450.00-16050.00,50.00-65.00,3.190,4.750,6.450,0.191,0.191,1.164,0,0,192,288,448,576

Notice how now I closed a the 25 kHz range a bit. Previously I opened it because you complained about it not being used by vertical games. But it turned out it was too open, because even 320 lines games were being calculated through it, resulting in thick borders. Now only games which are between 384 and 400 lines high will be at 25 kHz. Games below 288 lines will be at 15 kHz. Games in the middle > 288 and < 384 will be stretched out in the 31 kHz range, to fill the screen completely. In case it's not clear the logic I'm following for opening/closing the ranges please let me know so I can explain it better, it's the basic key to control GM's behaviour.
-
I would say that this is the most accurate preset because it is letting some ega vertical games run at native
resolution while using 1232x480 on games that were cropped in the middle. There are only two games that are
displaying at wrong resolution meaning interlace they are turbo force and aero fighters. :applaud:
-
Try increasing the 31 kHz range a little bit:
crt_range2 31000.00-32500.00,50.00-65.00,0.330,3.580,1.750,0.316,0.063,1.137,0,0,480,512,0,0
-
Thanks calamity for your help and patience. That last range work perfectly with those two games that had wrong
resolution. So it's save to say that this is the best preset for rodotron 666b: :afro:  :burgerking: :applaud: ;D

I would like to know if it is possible to make a v-size, v-hold, v-space, h-space feature integrated in groovymame in a future release. Even thought I now
have a preset if I increase the size of some games the others look zoom and with thick scanlines. But if the software does it there no need to mess around with it. ;)
-
I just modified the first post topic to include "Rodotron 666B-29" so its more informative. I'm glad to see that you found a good preset for your monitor. Unfortunately v-size and v-hold can't be controlled by modelines. This is something that must be done physically on the monitor. We all have to deal with this. On the othern hand horizontal/vertical centering and horizontal size can be controlled by modelines.

Thanks calamity. I guess this is an anolog trisync that does not remember resolutions. I am gonna leave it at a size that is good for all res
so I don't have to keep using v-size between games. The preset does help a lot with vertical games.

Today I received Scanline Generator SLG3000 and was impress on how good I was able to control scanlines with groovyume. The reason that I bought it was because I don't like how thick the scanlines are on my monitor cga games. I did arcade_31 on groovyume.ini however, I am having the same issue as before where some vertical games come out cropped in the middle. Would it be possible to make a preset that exploits 31 kHz signal? or is there a way to let groovyume change resolutions without producing scanlines and let SLG3000 poroduce it but still change resolutions.

@Calamity can you tell me if these settings are the same as the preset you have in the ini file for the WeiYa 3129 since it's the same chassis as the rodotron? Just wondering what I should use for my WeiYa.
Thanks

Solve the problem with cropped vertical games in the middle. The problem was using arcade_31 after I change it to custom it got fix. However,
I wanted to used 31 kHz signal with slg3000 because I was unhappy of how thick the 15 kHz signal is with my multisync monitor. After playing around with groovyume.ini I left the monitor type as custom and in resolution I put 720x480@60 and it open up the 31 kHz signal ignoring the cga signal which I wanted. I check some of the games and these are some of the resolutions I am getting with some games. 400x480p, 512x480p, 888x480p 704x480p, 960x480p, 576x480p, 832x480p, 400x480p, 592x480p, 768x480p and 736x480p. I am much happier with the way cga games look now, when the monitor used to change to 15 kHz signal and I could not make out the faces of characters because of the thickness of the scanlines now it looks just right. I thought that all the games where gonna be display at 720x480p fix resolution but it turns out that swichtres is changing res and my slg3000 is producing the scanlines.

I just finished checking all the mame games with the 31 khz signal. All games switch
resolutions using the 31 khz. However, these are the only games that are still using the 15 khz
signal. I want groovyume to display all games at 31khz ranges because I don't like the
way games look at 15khz with my monitor. Here is the list of games I want to be display

I open the 31 khz signal by putting 720x480@60 resolution in my ume.ini and using the last
rodotron 666b preset please take a look. The other way would be to put arcade_31 but it makes
some vertical games cropped this is the only way to get around it so far.
also look at the logs for these games. I also tried increasing crt_range2 00-33000
crt_range2 31000.00-33000.00,50.00-65.00,0.330,3.580,1.750,0.316,0.063,1.137,0,0,480,512,0,0
but it did not help.
Thanks.

Hi rock145,
The solutions is pretty obvious, just allow your monitor to use the 31 kHz range. The way you have it now you still are including the 15 kHz and the 31 kHz as selectable by GroovyMAME through the crt_range0 and crt_range1 lines. You have to set everything to 'auto' except crt_range0, which you have to replace with the 31 kHz range contents, like this:
crt_range0 31000.00-32500.00,50.00-65.00,0.330,3.580,1.750,0.316,0.063,1.137,0,0,480,512,0,0

Thanks calamity I really do appreciate your help. You have help me achieve everything that I wanted out of my monitor. I would say that this is the
best forum for everything arcade. Without groovymame to me the arcade experience is not complete. :applaud:
