Title: ARCADEGATE AG-1
Post by: zallax on September 05, 2013, 02:05:01 pm
This is a project that I started awhile back.  I got the frame built, computer installed, sound added, artwork done, but got stuck on the control panel.  I was wanting to add a mini trackball to it but could not get the plate for it just right.  I was also disappointed that it was not as "portable" as I wanted it to be.  So, I put it aside for awhile.  Then I ran across a mini-cocktail design, which I loved and built.  For the most part, I abandoned this project all together.

My wife saw it in the garage one day and asked if I could complete it for her child care center.  So, I dropped the mini trackball from the design and went back to work.  Here is the result.  It still needs the back door and lock installed as well as a cover for the fan.  I am getting those parts tomorrow.

The arcade runs off of Windows XP on a Asock A330 ION that has been slightly overclocked.  So, no 90's games, but that does not matter as I was going for arcade classics anyways.  I use GameEx as my front end and made and modded another theme to match the arcade's motif.  I also installed some USB ports in the front for a keyboard/mouse for maintenance purposes.

It is not as perfect as I would like it, but I am sure the kids won't care.

The dust washers are a nice touch. I like them with that theme.

the only thing I wouldve done differently was not install the USB ports in the front. Kids can be abusive and USB are no exception. However, I'm guessing you installed them before your wife appropriated the cab, so it's all good.

on a side note, I would caution your wife about the cab in the child care center. Some local districts are very strict about what's allowed in a center. I wouldn't want to deprive the kids of their gaming education, I'm just saying it would be a good idea to make sure.
