Hello-
I recently purchased a 19" Wells Gardner (serial unknown) for a cab I am building. I was told this monitor needed an Isolation Transformer so I purchased one and should have it today or tomorrow. After reading about how to set it up (Bob Roberts http://homearcade.org/BBBB/acwiring.html) (http://homearcade.org/BBBB/acwiring.html)) I am wondering do I need all the components in this particular setup? I only need power to my monitor.
I am excited to set this up but scared I will not hook up correctly and damage the monitor!!! Any suggestions?

Let me simplify my question.....Is this a safe setup: Monitor>Isolation Transformer>Hacked Computer Power Cable>Power Strip

it is easy
ANY NON SMPS UNIT SHOULD BE ROUTED TO THE ISO TRANSFORMER
if it has a smps style power supply then u are good to go
the well's need the iso transformer beacause it is called hot to ground
same with normal 2 wire lamps >117vac<.,where as a smps switch mode powersupply,is already isolated by the very nature of its design
u can plug it into the hot >input side< of the iso transformer without
fear of shock, and or blowning up down stream stuff
where the monitor is hot to ground it requires the iso

What the hell is going on with the signal connector(s)?

Yeh, what's up with that? Looks like you plugged a computer power supply into the video input connector.

Thanks for the reply guys.... I haven't modified this monitor at all. I just bought it off Craigslist. I received my isolation transformer in the mail yesterday and was planning on trying to hook everything up this weekend. Should I be concerned with the setup of this monitor?

The cable that is connected to the video input is a modified vga cord. This allows the monitor to be connected to an arcadevga card.

I'm concerned about your VGA breakout cable not having the proper connector on the monitor end. Here's what the connector should look like:

And here's the Molex part numbers:
Connector - 0009507101
Pins - 0008500105

grantspain- Thanks for the info!
Nephasth- I was thinking his homemade cable looked "different" He assured me it was good and he had been using it with no problems. With that being said, I will take your advice and look into making a new one. Could his cable have damage the monitor at all?
Thanks guys!

cable is probably ok,they work or do not-just looks like a lash up

I think people where more concerned that the connectors from an AT motherboard power supply were going to the video input, and that possibly someone has attempted to power it via said power supply.

don't ask why, we've seen some craaaaazy stuff. :o

It's quite possible that they have compatible pin pitch and somebody just hacked up a wiring harness using what they had laying around - an old AT power supply (and probably a boat-load of wire nuts...)
-
I still haven't had a chance to hook up the monitor.....I have been reading the proper setup for wiring. I wasn't 100% on the proper "grounding" for the monitor. Fingers crossed the previous owner did not try to use this monitor without an isolation transformer.
