Title: Custom 4 Player Showcase Cabinet (Shawnee, KS)
Post by: gamepimp on August 27, 2013, 05:18:41 pm
After making some "upgrades" to my showcase cab, I ended up with enough parts and materials to build a second machine. The cabinet consists of 4 separate pieces. The monitor housing contains a 46" Samsung LCD TV (http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/UN46C5000QFXZA-specs (http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/UN46C5000QFXZA-specs)) that is flanked by aluminum speaker grills. It has a marquee housing that can accommodate a standard backlit marquee or a digital marquee from a modified 27" LCD monitor. It sits atop the main cabinet which serves as an "entertainment center" with two laminated shelves and tinted glass doors that can house a receiver, game consoles, blu-ray/dvd player, etc. The CP pedestal connects to the main cabinet and has an opening for a Coinco 4 player coin door. It also houses a keyboard tray. The CP has cutouts for 4 joysticks with 6 buttons per player. Start buttons for P1-4 mount towards the top. There is a 4 port USB hub embedded in the front of the CP (facing the monitor) to connect console controllers. All parts of the cabinet are constructed mostly of an ultralight MDF which weighs about 30% less than traditional MDF. The whole unit is covered in 1/16" black Formica.

Since this is a DIY crowd, I'm offering this unit w/o buttons, joysticks, coin door, digital marquee (std marquee included), computer, or speakers. However, if someone wanted any or all of those items, I could include them for an additional amount. In other words, you can have a mostly "bare" cabinet or a mostly "complete" machine depending on how much you want to spend. If interested, plz contact me so we can discuss your specific needs. Here are some pics of various iterations of this cabinet.

Thx! This is my 3rd showcase that I've built. I'm definitely getting good at it.  ;)

With such a large monitor, I didn't want to have a bezel surrounding it. So the only bezel u see is the one that the TV came with. On the updated machine, I was actually able to decase a 50" TV with a thinner bezel (only 3/4" or so). So even though the monitor is bigger horizontally, the space it takes up in the housing is slightly less.  ;D

Here's my current machine...

This particular coin door came off of eBay. It had each color installed. If u want all blue, I wouldn't even bother with a Coinco (Coin Controls) door. U can only get red reject buttons now. I would try to find a door that has Happ reject buttons. More than likely u won't find a door that has all blue. But u can get blue reject buttons on eBay from Twisted Quarter to replace other colors that are in the door u bought. I think TQ also has doors available.

How did you use a 27" lcd monitor for the marquee?

The bottom half of the 27" monitor sits below the top of the monitor housing. So all u see is the top half. I use a program called Marquee Magician to display marquees in a window that occupies only the top half of that monitor. And I have an aluminum bezel that surrounds that top half so it gives the illusion that it's a short, wide monitor.
