Hi all, I was asked to build an upright cabinet for a friend, this is what I came up with after about 1 week or nights in the garage. haven't added the PC hardware yet, screens are just running off a laptop for test.
Was originally a very rough Turbo Outrun cabinet. I kept the marquee for a mantle piece and the artwork on the glass was too good to remove.
The wheel and pedals are all 10k pots hacked into USB analogue controllers.
Ended up basically refurbishing the wheel, gearstick and pedal mechs as they were all in a sad state. Removed the 20inch CRT, replaced with a custom bezel and 20inch LCD.
Enjoy!

Nice, that will for sure provide some good racing moments for your friend :)
However it would have even better with the CRT if you ask me.

me too! :-[ ;D
The colors on the monitor bezel throw it off a bit, but that's getting picky.

I like the engine start button. I wanted to put one into mine.

Yep, I considered removing the original artwork but I couldn't get hold of some Sega racing classic bezel artwork and was a bit lazy so left it original. I considered tinting the glass but then moved onto another project.
Thanks

Don't feel bad, I lost my job so had extra time to spend :)

They cost $30 here so I was reluctant to do it but the new owner insisted. They light up aswell so can have it flashing when credits are loaded etc.

Nice job!
Just a question, do the pedals feel comfortable when playing? Asking cause I am considering doing a project like this.

Thanks. Standing can be tiresome after a while as you seem to rest all your weight on the left leg as to not put too much weight on the pedals. I have been using it with a tall bar stool, that's a lot easier. Would look good in the corner of a room with a workshop style barstool, maybe chequered flag print...
